Ray Arlin Meyer, age 80, passed peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

Ray was born November 25, 1943, to John and Bertha (Harms) Meyer. He grew up in Willow Lake, SD, and entered the service in 1962. After the military service, Ray entered Respiratory Care school in Sioux Falls, SD. He met his wife, Rita, while she was working on medical surgery for nursing. They were married on October 2, 1965, at Christ the King Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Ray worked in respiratory care in Madison, SD, and then Sioux Falls, Fergus Falls, eventually landing in Fargo as Department Head of RT at St. John’s Hospital. Later he worked at Healthcare Accessories and then with Dakota House and enjoyed his clients.

Retiring in the fall of 2006, he began to enjoy watching his grandkids play their sports and activities.

Ray is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Bonnie (Curt) Bloesser, Fr. James Meyer, Barbara (Francis) Leier, Robert Meyer, Colleen and Jim Crowley; grandchildren, RaeLyn (Kyle), Wyatt, Jackson, Emily, Katie, Caitlin, Cailin, Shea, Abby, Mary, Elizabeth, John, and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Noah and Avery; brother, Robert Meyer; sister, Dorothy (Lloyd) Brendon; brother-in-law, Robert Andraschko, Msgr. James Andraschko; and sister-in-law, Elsie Andraschko.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Barb Meyer; brother-in-law, Jack Andraschko; and sister-in-law, Donna Andraschko.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to Right to Life, Riverview Place, Pink It Forward, or Ashers Heart Foundation.

  9. I am so thankful for the visits I had with your wonderful family man, Ray Meyer. He is a great story teller (every fisher person is)! One more angel to look over you now, and a very special one. May the Lord bless him and keep him close to His side. May Ray rest in peace.

  11. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you celebrate Ray’s life, and send him off to his Heavenly home. We carry with us all the memories of good times together – playing cards, going out to eat – just enjoying each other’s company! Ray always liked to teach us how to be a better pinochle partner!! Hug each other from us! We wish we could be there in person, but are glad that we can watch the livestream.

  14. So sorry for your loss. I first met Ray at Sunset Lanes. He and Glen were quite the pair. I knew Ray later from Respiratory Therapy at St. John’s and Rita from DHHS ER. Very nice couple.
