Raymond Robertsdahl

raymond robertsdahl
Raymond Stanley Robertsdahl, 84, died peacefully at Villa Maria long term care facility in Fargo, ND on June 17, 2018. Raymond was born on August 4, 1933 to Randall and Salina (Hoel) Robertsdahl. He lived and worked the land on the Robertsdahl Centennial Farm along the Wild Rice River near Walcott, ND. The farm had been homesteaded by his ancestors from Norway. Ray loved old time country music and played accordion for neighborhood dances. Ray met his sweetheart, Virginia Dusek at a ballroom dance class in Fargo. They married in 1974. Virginia was an elementary school teacher who encouraged Ray to earn his GED Certificate in the class of 1989. It took him only two weeks of studying to pass the exams. Ray started farming with his dad using horses. The use of tractors started a lifetime passion of tractor collecting. He sold his working tractors when he moved to Fargo and continued collecting over 200 toy tractors. He was an active member of Hickson Lutheran Church, a life time member of the Kringen Lodge of the Sons of Norway in Fargo, and a long-time member of a bowling league. Ray and Virginia moved to a home in south Fargo in 1997. After moving to Fargo he became a member of Olivet Lutheran Church. Ray and Virginia could be seen almost daily in downtown Fargo walking the skyway for exercise until he was in his 70s. They could also be seen at local auction sales working on expanding their collections. Ray is survived by his wife, Virginia (Dusek) Robertsdahl of Fargo, ND, sisters-in-law Georgia Grinaker and Stella Baumler of Fargo, ND, brother-in-law Lester Dusek of St. Cloud, MN, seven nieces and nephews, and ten great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Salina Robertsdahl, and father, Randall Robertsdahl, four brothers-in-law and a nephew. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Edgewood Vista, Villa Maria and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their dedication and care. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior. Burial at the North Pleasant Cemetery, Cass County, ND. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ray’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.

  2. Virginia: My memories of Raymond are mostly from our youth. We had fun trying to ice skate on the Wild Rice River and sliding down the snowy riverbank on a sled or a shovel or whatever was available. We will be thinking of you on Friday.
