Richard A. Stelter

Richard Arthur Stelter, 79, passed away peacefully at River Pointe Assisted Living in Moorhead, MN on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Richard was born on September 23, 1946, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Arthur and Anna (Knappen) Stelter. He was baptized on October 20, 1946, at Engelund Lutheran Church. As a young child, he lived many of his formative years in Rochert, MN before the family moved to Moorhead, MN. Once in Moorhead, Richard attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1964. He went on to enroll at the Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, graduating with a degree in Business.

Following graduation, Richard moved to St. Paul, MN and later Woodbury, MN working at various businesses, retiring as a mail room supervisor and from Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota in 2014. In 2022, he moved to Moorhead to be closer to family. Richard was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Richard enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, traveling and photographing his travels, especially of Oregon and the ocean, having a glass of wine, listening to music, and watching movies.

Richard is survived by his brother-in-law, Mike Wardlow, Henning, MN; nephews, Mike (Tiffany) Wardlow, Glyndon, MN and Greg (Rosa) Wardlow, Sioux Falls, SD; great-nephews and nieces, Michael Wardlow, Ginger Wardlow, Joseph Wardlow, and Georgia Wardlow; and best friend since nineth grade, Merritt Wadleigh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Art and Anna Stelter; grandparents; and sister, Kathleen “Kathy” Wardlow.
