Prayer Service:
Richard (Dick) Lothspeich, 91, of Fargo ND died at Essentia Hospital on December 21st, 2022
Richard Allen Lothspeich was born September 15th, 1931 in Langdon ND to Albert and Minnie (Konze) Lothspeich. He went to school in Langdon ND through the 8th grade and then began working on his sister’s farm in rural Langdon ND. Dick joined the army in 1954 and was stationed in San Francisco until 1956. He met Theresa Loegering at a Langdon cafe in February 1956, and they married October 27th 1956 in Cogswell ND. After moving to Fargo, he began his career at the downtown Sears in 1956 where he worked in the shoe department. Sears moved to West Acres, where he then worked in the automotive department selling batteries and tires. Dick stayed busy working various part-time jobs throughout his life. After 31 years, he retired from Sears in 1987, but couldn’t stay idle, so began working at Roman Meal Milling Company where he stayed for five years.
Richard and Theresa made their home in Fargo ND where they raised their family. Dick and Theresa were charter members of Nativity Church where he volunteered for many years. They also had a winter home in Mesa AZ, where they made many memories with family and friends at Windsor Park and Christ the King Church. His favorite activities in Mesa were playing golf and shooting pool.
Dick was a lifelong Yankees fan. He enjoyed listening to them on the radio, watching them on TV and planning vacations to see them play as a visiting team. If you had a question about the Yankees, he had the answer.. After retiring, a new hobby was going to auction sales, where he enjoyed the challenge of buying items and selling them at garage sales. The garage sales were so successful that they became a family event as they grew each year. He even had regular customers that watched for his sales every spring and fall. He loved the hunt for a great deal. Another lifelong passion was playing Pinochle. If you took a coffee break with him at Sears or stopped by his house, he had a deck of cards ready to play a game.. If you had the opportunity to beat him, consider yourself lucky.
Richard is survived by his seven children. Linda (Larry) Brooks, Karen (Roger) Kahler, Gerald (MaryJo) Lothspeich Wyndmere ND, Marilyn Johnson, Duane (Lorrie) Lothspeich Minot ND, Ruth (Ken) Wettstein Rosemount MN, Pamela Tuel; his 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Theresa, who passed away July 2, 2022; his parents Albert and Minnie Lothspeich; son-in-law Lynn Johnson; siblings Margaret Lykken, Mary Spaeth, Betty Nowatzki, Dale Lothspeich; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nephews.
