June 18, 1953 ~ April 7, 2024

Born in: Fargo, North Dakota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Richard “Dick” Charles Snyder, 70, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He courageously fought his battle with cancer with strength and determination and he cherished every day he was given.

Dick was born June 18, 1953, in Fargo, to Earl and Ardys (Hansen) Snyder. He attended Fargo North High and North Dakota State University, graduating with a degree in History and minors in Sociology and Political Science. He continued to enjoy the study of history throughout his life.

He was married to the love of his life, Joyce, for nearly 50 years. Dick was very proud of his family, Jessica Eagleson (Nathan Lukken), Kelly (Nick) Johnson, Chandra (Ben) Snyder-Miller, and Nathan Snyder; grandchildren, Ashlyn and Payton Eagleson, Harper and Leo Johnson, Ian Snyder and Hope Miller.

Dick began working in the family business, Snyder Distributing, as a teenager. He spent the majority of his life running the business and was fortunate to retire at a young age. After his retirement he became involved in volunteer work. Focusing on fundraising and budgeting as a Fund Raising and Stewardship Chairman at Peace Lutheran Church and Treasurer at El Zagal Shrine. He was a long-time member of Peace serving two terms as President and on the Call Committee which brought Peace its current wonderful pastor. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, a Master Mason of Shiloh Lodge (serving as Master), a member of El Zagal Shrine (serving on the Membership Committee and as Treasurer). He spent several years working as an independent business consultant. Then by chance, he found a second career as a commercial realtor. He loved his most recent position at Core Realty, especially the new friendships he made. Due to his deteriorating health, Dick informed them about a week before his passing that he would be retiring – at the end of the year.

His summers were spent watching the Twins and enjoying time at the family cabin on Ottertail Lake in MN, where he could always find a new project. He loved to sit back with a Diet Coke in hand and watch his family enjoying lake life. He walked daily, sometimes several times a day, always keeping track of his steps and proudly sharing them with whoever would listen. He enjoyed getting away from the North Dakota winters. There are so many happy memories (and pictures) for his children and grandchildren of their many trips to Disney and the beach. He was a third generation NDSU graduate and spent his Saturdays in the fall cheering on Bison football and waiting for the Vikings to win a Super Bowl.

He always had a full house of family and friends for holidays. He did not want anyone to have to spend the holidays alone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ardys; and his brothers, Bob and Tom.

He loved to joke around and share chocolate and ice cream with his grandkids. His family and his faith were what he valued most in his life. We will remember him for his kindness, generosity, warm smile, strong hugs and desire to take care of those he loved. To the very end he remained positive and focused on all the blessings in his life. He was so loved and is going to be greatly missed.

A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and entire staff at Sanford Health Fargo and Roger Maris Cancer Center who worked so hard to give him more time with his family. A special thank you to Dr. Wiisanen and Jordan (3-stars). To Pastor Cassie Anderson for going above and beyond with her support of Dick and the nurturing of his faith. To family, friends, and all who reached out over the past 7 months with support, kind words, and very loving hearts. It meant so much to us. God Bless.

  11. Dear Joyce and family,
I am saddened to hear that Dick left us so early and leaves behind his big, loving family that will be missing him. Losing someone so close to you is one of the hardest journeys in life and I pray that God will bring you comfort, strength, wisdom and even blessings along the way. No one can replace a dad or husband, but praying that the many happy years you spent together will bring you smiles and gratitude. I pray Dick is walking the streets of heaven and moving into his new mansion on Jesus Street. I worked with Joyce for many years and she is still a good friend and sister-in-Christ. Tight hugs to you all during this time of sadness.
    Sincerely, Cindy Wessels

  21. Joyce and Family,
We mourn along with you as our Peace Lutheran family has lost one of our good and faithful members. We will all miss him. I pray for God’s peace and love for all of you.

  22. I worked for Richard at Snyder Distributing for 8 years in the 80’s and early 90’s before moving to California. He was a good man to work for. I remember when I was getting ready to move he told me if things don’t work for me in California, I could come back and have a job with him again. That really stuck with me. Two things I remember about dick is he always had a Tab soda, and styling in a pair of guess jeans.

  23. Joyce and family, we are so sorry to hear about your loss. May all your great memories of Dick bring smiles to you often. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this sad and difficult time.

  24. Joyce and family,
Pam and I are so saddened by the loss of Dick. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I knew Dick thru the Shrine and we spent a lot of time together back in the day. We served on the Divan together where Dick’s financial acumen was put to use. He was instrumental in making changes that helped maintain the financial strength of El Zagal for decades. I just want you to know how important his contributions were and he certainly left an impact. Much respect for Dick.

We know how proud he was of his kids and and enjoyed that time. We wish you comfort in this time of grief.

    Drew and Pam Likness

  25. Dear Joyce and Family, You are in our thoughts and prayers in the loss of this wonderful man. Sorry we can’t be at the funeral. With much love, Dick and Rose P.
