Richard Strankowski age 75, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Monday October 24th, 2022, at the Fargo Sanford Hospice House of leukemia, surrounded by loved ones.
Richard was born in Aschaffenburg, Germany, on April 2nd, 1947, to Josie (Jaszczur) and William Strankowski. He grew up and attended school in Jamestown, ND. He moved to Kansas City, MO after graduating High School.
He married the love of his life Kathryn (Jacobs) on April 5th, 1975. They lived in Kansas City until after Kathy’s passing in 1982. Richard and his children (Kim and Ryan) moved to Jamestown, ND in 1984, to be closer to Richard’s family.
Richard worked various jobs. He owned Action Hobbies in the late 1980’s, he worked in agriculture and most notable as ticket taker at the Jamestown Speedway for more than 25 years. His favorite job was raising his two children and had a special bond with his favorite (and only) grandson Ian.
Richard loved racing RC cars around North Dakota. He was an avid plantsman. He loved to tinker in his garden and with his dozens of orchids. He enjoyed grilling and smoking meats, even in the depths of winter. He had a passion for music and played guitar for the most of his adult life. He had the gift of gab and could strike up a conversation with almost anyone.
He is survived by his daughter Kim, son Ryan (Jennifer), grandson Ian, brother Chuck, sister Mary (Jeff) Oster, sister Linda (Gordy) Greenstein, 5 Nieces and Nephews, and more friends than we can count.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn, Parents William and Josie.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Jamestown at a later date, to be announced.
I worked with Richie almost 10 years at the Jones Store Co in KC. We spent many, many days and nights playing our guitars. He spent some Holidays with me at my parents house as part of our family. Enjoyed a few hunting trips as well as a trip to Jamestown for his sister’s wedding. I will always remember our times together and the friendship we shared. Thoughts and prayers are with the family
Have missed you, Kathy and Rich so much.
Kim, Ryan and family,
I’m so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I have fond memories of him when I would play at your house Kim. Even long after graduating high school he would always have a smile and a kind hello when I would see him around town. Love and prayers to you all.
