Richard's service will be livestreamed below at 2:00 PM Friday, November 20, 2020 on this page. https://vimeo.com/event/486480 Richard (Dick) Alan Woods was born on May 15, 1963, to Robert and Orella “Pat” (Nysveen) Woods. He grew up and attended school in Hillsboro, North Dakota, and graduated from Hillsboro High School. Richard was united in marriage to Wanda Pruitt on May 7, 1988 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. They moved to California a couple of years later. Richard moved back to Hillsboro about ten years after that. He held various jobs in the area throughout the years; his favorites were dealing blackjack and working the beet harvest. He was a “what you see is what you get” kind of guy and he loved people. He was a lot like his dad in that he could strike up a conversation with anyone. Dick always loved music. He had a wonderful experience during high school touring Europe with the International Music Camp. He also used to sing at funerals in his younger days. Karaoke may have also been in his repertoire. Dick enjoyed playing cribbage (especially with his dad and his brother), golf, crossword puzzles, card games, and his favorite was poker. He was fortunate to win the state poker tournament in 2007. One of the highlights of Dick’s life was attending his daughter’s wedding in California. That is a beautiful memory we will always cherish. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his partner of ten years, Margaret Sundeen. Richard is survived by his daughter, Heather (Randy) Garrison; Heather’s mother, Wanda Woods; his brother, Bill (Joni) Woods; sister, Mary Woods; nieces, Katy Larson and Tammy Yarber; Tammy’s sons, Jaxon and Mavrik; his partner, Kristina Laubach; Kristina’s daughter, Elsa; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. These people all held a special place in his heart.

  3. Dick was a kind soul who would talk with any one…..always cheery and smiley…rest in peace Dick and hold open the doors to Heaven when we all come home..hugs and prayers to family..

  4. Love and sympathies to all who remember Rich and his fun loving spirit. I couldn’t talk much to him these last years, but that didnt stop him from talking to me, and even listening to me. He was always up for a road trip and time at the lake. I’ll miss his cookies and his laugh. Rest well, no pain, no debt, no troubles, now my friend and Burro brother. Hugs to Mary, Katie, Joni, and Bill. Tim Hanson

  5. I have literally hundreds of awesome, humorous memories of Dick!! He was a great classmate & a good friend. No matter how bad your day was, all you needed was 1t minutes around Dick & he’d have you laughing & in a better mood. You will be hugely missed Dick. R.I.P. my friend!!!

  6. I have two kids, boys, 19 and 22, who never met Dick but heard stories about him their whole lives. It got to be whenever I would relate a memory of High School or college they would expect Dick to figure in somehow. I wish I could have introduced him to them. A big presence, strong, sharp, interesting, and lovable. Alway appreciated his take on things and his humor. Didn’t much see Dick the last 30 years but I feel a big loss and so wish I had. My thoughts are with you Bill, Joni, Mary and Heather – he was a good man and a worthy friend.

  7. Sadly, I hadn’t seen Dick for several years – but I will always remember him and several of the adventures we shared. He was a colorful character with a great sense of humor. We went to several movies together, often laughing our butts off during the movie, and during the car ride home. He was a character in the high school football team huddle as well as in the classroom. He was a kind soul who I’m sure left many people fond memories. R.I.P., Richard … thanks for the fun times. And the great one-liners.

  8. i hope I never forget that smile and friendly personality! Dick was a fun person to be around. Rest in peace, Dick.

  9. To the family of Dick,
I was a classmate of Dick’s thru my freshman year. I would see him when I would return to Hillsboro to visit and he always greeted me with a big smile. I will forever hold fond memories of him and am deeply sorry for your loss.
    Sincerely,
    Kari Olson Ruggles

  10. Bill, Mary, Joni & Heather, I can’t remember a time in my life before I knew Richard. Our families were close and we spent so much time together. Family adventures, biking around town, getting into trouble. When I started school in Hillsboro my Sophomore year, Dick helped me adjust and feel at ease. Impossible not to like his big smile, goofy sense of humor and genuine enjoyment of everyone he met. Golf brought us close in later years and we spent far too much time wandering the GRGC with a great group of friends. Anyone around during those days cannot help but smile and laugh thinking about Dick’s amazing observations on whatever was happening around us. No one ever made me laugh harder or feel more like a friend. No matter how much time passed between visits, it always felt like we had been together just yesterday. You will be sorely missed my friend. Godspeed

  11. Dick and I had a great friendship. We just “got” each other. Golfed with him many a Sunday mornings. He was fun, quick witted and just a decent man. Will miss him! Godspeed, my friend!!

  12. Mary, Bill, and Joni,
I am sorry for your loss as well as the loss others in your families will experience. Treasure your memories and hold on to them with love, and joy. Praying for strength, endurance and peace as you face this change in your lives.

  13. I was very sad when I learned about Dicks passing – I started thinking about our many adventures growing up and started to smile – as more of those memories surfaced, I was laughing out loud. Dick was a good friend and good person. My condolences to his family.

  14. Rest in peace my dear Cousin, your worries are over and you are in the arms of Robert and Pat, wrapped in God’s grace.

  15. To the family of Dick Woods,
Dck was kind hearted to anyone he met. His smile was infectious. I haven’t seen Dick since our graduation in 1981. I came back for visits and my parents funerals. I kept in touch with a few classmates and they usually would get me up to speed. Dick, I’m going to miss your smile and your laugh. RIP my friend.

  16. My prayers to Dick’s family. I ran into him a few years back and he was still the nice guy I knew in high school. Such a genuine, kind guy always with a smile on his face.

  17. My heart is with you all today as Dick is laid to rest. Peace be with you all.
Thank you for providing the online service.

  18. I’ll always remember you smiling, laughing, how much you cared for others and for how happy you made mother and how much you loved and cared for her. I remember when you loaned your old blazer to me when I first started working and i found your cds in the visor and found out you liked to rock! Then you showed me how you’re supposed to rock out to pantera. I lost it laughing and you had told me stories about the shows you’ve went to. You were such a great person Richard and will be greatly missed by many!! I love you

  19. I was honored having him for a brother-in-law. He is going to be dearly missed. It broke Rudy and my heart when we heard of his passing. I am so glad that I got to see him at my nieces wedding. We will only have good memories of Richard,♡ Rest in Peace Richard…

  21. Sincerest condolences to Dick’s brother and sister, my dear friends Bill and Mary. i remember Dick as a little boy just before the Navy called me. good kid, who grew up to be a good man. May God bless and comfort you.

  22. I met Dick through the local billiards league. Had allot of fun with him. Always singing and clowning around. He was a good fella and will be missed.

    My condolences to his family.

  23. Saying goodbye to you was hard because it was saying goodbye to a big part of my past life. You are loved and will be missed!

  24. My sympathies, thoughts and prayers to all of the Woods family. Dick and I became golf friends in the late 80s and then worked together for a couple years at Schwans while I was in college. We spent a lot of hours in the freezer at Schwans and playing many holes of golf with the crew at GRGC. There was never a dull moment when you were with Dick. I remember visiting him, Wanda and Heather after they had moved to California and we played golf there too. Years later, after his return to ND, he played in our annual golf tournament and we picked up the conversation like we had seen each other the whole time. Dick was a great friend, very loyal, full of humor, always smiling and to everyone’s surprise not often early for work or a tee time, ha!
I will miss you my friend, but I’m sure Foxy and Pat greeted you with open arms!

You were a good friend Spanky!

    Kory Bartels

    God bless all of you!
