Robert Holm

robert holm

Robert passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, at the age of 74.

Robert Bruce Holm was born on September 21, 1950, the son of Harry and Arlene (Snyder) Holm in Valley City, North Dakota. Robby, as known by his family, grew up on the family farm near Valley City, where he loved his life growing up as a typical farm boy. He attended school in Valley City until the 7th grade, the 8th grade in Oriska, then transfered to Fargo where he graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School. Robert furthered his education at North Dakota State University in Fargo where he received his Bachelor’s degree.

Following his schooling, Robert made his permanent home in Fargo. He worked as a Truck Driver for many years for Lewis Truck Lines in Fargo, and later as an over the road trucker. Robert was also well known for his work as a manager for charitable gaming for Cystic Fibrosis and for his work with area music/concert venues. In his later years, Robert enjoyed getting back to his roots by working for a local farmer – the love of the farm never left him throughout his life, even taking his summer vacations in earlier years to go back to Valley City and help his father on the farm.

Robert was the go-to guy for knowledge his mind was like a steel trap. He was well read on anything and everything to do with agriculture, whether it would be crop prices, machinery prices, or even what the world wide markets and weather were doing and how that would affect local farmers. He had a love for investing and watching those investments gain/loose as the years went by. Robert was known for his honesty, his genuine smile, and his easy to be around nature. He was proud to be able to be of help to his parents in their aging years when they moved to Fargo. Robert was a proud life long member of the NRA.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Arlene. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Holm of Mesa, Arizona; several other very dear relatives; and many special friends who were like family to Robert in the last years – Gary Reinhart, Dave Zoeller, and Lee Swanson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo – with a gathering one hour prior. A reception will follow at the AM VETS in Fargo. Burial will take place in the spring as his ashes will be laid to rest with his parents in Woodbine Cemetery in Valley City, ND.

  3. Our sincere sympathy to you Charlotte, on the loss of Robert. Our families had so much fun together when we were all young, so many years ago. God bless you.
    Marian (Baldwin) Wasvick

  4. My deepest condolences to you, Charlotte–Bob was a great guy and a great friend–like a brother to me. I’ll miss our daily talks on the phone very much but will always have the best memories of Bob–just an all around great guy. Sorry I couldn’t make it back to Fargo from Florida but know that I was there in heart and spirit. Lee Swanson

  5. I am saddened to see that my friend Bob has passed away. We had many great conversations during his therapy “coffee” time over the last couple years. He was a genuine good old soul, full of wisdom, stories, and a little bit of humor. He will be missed.
