Rochelle “Shelly” Wieser passed away at SMP Health – St. Catherine North, on January 16, 2023, at the age of 75.
Rochelle was born in Fargo, ND, on December 3, 1947 to John and Leone “Mitzi” (Mitskog) Moos and baptized into the Catholic faith. She grew up in Casselton, ND, along with sisters Renee and Melanie. She graduated from Casselton High School, and attended Mayville State College and Wahpeton School of Science.
Shelly made her home in Fargo, working for a short time at Merchant’s Bank and then the SuperValue Offices for 7 years. During this time she served as church organist at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo, where she met Jerel Wieser, originally from Hankinson, ND. They were married on November 24, 1973 at St. Mary’s.
Jerel and Shelly welcomed daughters Mara and Penny, and after Penny’s arrival, Shelly opened a daycare in their home, which she operated for 31 years, caring for countless children with homemade meals, crafts, playtime, and love. Many of these children will forever be part of her family.
Shelly continued to be extremely active at St. Mary’s Cathedral, her Catholic faith always her guide. She continued as organist for many years, served fellowship after Mass, taught religious education and Sunday school, was active in the “Stephen’s Ministry,” and with Jerel led RCIA classes. She chaired the annual bazaar four times, and later led the craft booth for several years. Her famous buns were always the first to sell at the baked goods booth.
Shelly loved embroidery and cross stitch, spending as many hours as her schedule would allow. She also loved reading, listening to classical music, and of course, baseball. Family was her ultimate joy and she delighted in being a grandmother to Elizabeth, Audrey, and Nathan.
Rochelle is preceded in death by her parents, 3 infant brothers, and her grandparents. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerel; daughter Mara (Ervin) Gust of Strathcona, MN, and grandchildren Elizabeth, Audrey and Nathan; daughter Penny (Robert Steussy) of Fargo; sisters Renee Foster, Marina Del Rey, CA; Melanie (Rick) Wilson, Ft. Myers, FL; and half brother Zach (Edwin) Moos, Santa Ana, CA.

My sincere condolences to Jerry, Mara and Penny and all the family. Shelley was such a sweet person; I always enjoyed visiting with her. I believe the last time was some years ago at the Shanley Dinner Auction. Losing a spouse and a mom is tough but she is now soaring with the angels and free from all her cares. May she Rest In Peace!!
Kathy Sornsin Boucher
Thanks, Kathy.
Mara was my childhood best friend and even though we are many miles apart, I still love her dearly! I spent many days at the Wieser household growing up. Shelly was a wonderful mom and always welcomed me into their home. She and her husband raised 2 incredible daughters and I know she will continue to watch over all of them from above.
Thanks, Tanya.
Love from Spain.
Silvia
Thanks, Silvia.
Thank you.
No matter what the time or what the age…or how long a loved one has been sick..the end always seems to come too fast. I am so happy to hear that Shelly had a peaceful passing into her new and wonderful life. Your family have all been incredible in your care and concern. God’s blessings to each one of you.
Thanks, Louise.
Thank you.
My deepest sympathies to Jerry, Mara, and Penny. Shelly was our daycare provider for many, many years, helping me raise Mitchell, Michaela, and Emma. She gave them such a loving week-day home. She was a big supporter of Mitchell’s cub scout fundraisers, always buying popcorn and a wreath. We continued to share Christmas cards through the years and she even attended a few band concerts and Mitchell’s high school graduation party. Blessings to you all.
Thanks, Darla.
Our condolences to your families.
Our hope is that time will be your friend and memories console you.

My memory is when Shelly was my friend back in the 69-70’s. She was roommate of mine. Then Shelly played the organ at my wedding in 1971. She was a good friend. I remember this is the special time she meet her to be husband, Jerel. May she should. E at peace and her family also.
Thank you Paulette.
Jerel
I was so sorry to hear about Shelly. She provided our children with wonderful child care in the early 90’s. Mara, I listened to your talk at the visitation and chuckled when you talked about your moms hot dishes. My kids loved them! They were lucky to not just get Shelly’s love and attention but from all of you, Jerry, Mara and Penny. It truly was a family daycare.
I’m sorry that we could not attend the service but we are out of town. May your mom’s love and the memories you shared with her sustain you during this time. Our prayers are with all of you.

Sorry to hear of her passing. We were friends at school in Casselton. She was always so nice. I was happy to read her obituary and know of all the happiness she had in her life.
