Rodger Luckow, age 91, of Mahnomen, MN passed away peacefully at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Rodger Ole Lawrence Luckow was born on June 11, 1932 in Brandt, South Dakota to Emil and Ida Luckow. He grew up in the Mahnomen area and attended school in Mahnomen. He left school without graduating to help on the family farm. September 1952, he joined the United States Army and served until September 1954, when he was released from action military service and transferred to Army Reserves to complete service under Universal Military Training Service Act. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

On June 16, 1956 Rodger and Beverly Wolbeck were united in marriage in the Lake Grove Church, Waubun MN. They made their home in various locations, until settling in Mahnomen. Throughout his early life, Rodger worked a variety of jobs, learning new skills which gave him the knowledge to fix many things. He enjoyed working on tractors, cars and woodworking. Rodger found his place working as a truck driver for Thorson Construction, a job he continued until 1981 when he retired from Thorson and began dairy farming with his son, Steve.

Rodger enjoyed to hunt, fish and snowmobile. He enjoyed planting a large garden and looked forward to his family helping with the produce. He always had a story to tell for those who would listen. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life. He truly enjoyed the times spent with them.

Rodger was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, two children, Mary and Brian, one foster granddaughter, Alexzandra; his parents, and other loved family members.

Rodger is survived by his children: Sherie (Curt) Nelson, Lori (Mark Hirschel) Luckow, David (Sherri) Luckow, Steven (Cindy) Luckow, and Doreen (Scott) Thurston; grandchildren: Zachary (Andrea Nelson) Malcolm, Jessica (Jeremy) Heim, Adam (Molly Anderson) Nelson, Warren Luckow, Katahna Bosley, and Kathryn Thurston; step grandchildren: Chad (Kim) Neisen, Jeanie (Rob) Troy and Lloyd (Amanda) Neisen; great-grandchildren: Eli, Avery, Riley, Nash and Olivier; brother, John (Cheryl) Luckow, sister, Shirley (Alden) Hirsch; and many other family members.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm, with a time of gathering one hour before at First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen MN.
