Roger Loren Armstrong, 80, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at Sanford Health in Fargo. He was born on July 25, 1944, in Rolette, North Dakota, to Richard and Ethel (Bush) Armstrong.

Roger was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having enlisted shortly after graduating from Rolette High School in 1962. He served from 1962 to 1970, with duty stations that included Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, as well as assignments in Italy, Chicago, and Dayton, Ohio.

Following his honorable discharge, Roger returned to his roots in Rolette, where he married the love of his life, Ira Schindele, on April 21, 1972. The couple made their home in Rolette before relocating to Minneapolis, where Roger attended X-Ray School. He later worked in Rolette before moving to Fargo, where he dedicated three decades of service to the National Weather Service. Roger also volunteered at the Fargo Veterans Hospital and continued his service to the community by working for Sanford Health in the radiology department for ten years following his first retirement, and ended his long working career as a courtesy car driver for Lunde auto dealership in Fargo, ND.

Roger was known for his insatiable curiosity and love for research, often referred to humorously as the “professor of everything.” His passion for genealogy was particularly noteworthy, as he eagerly delved into the histories and lineages of his family and beyond.

Roger is survived by his beloved spouse, Ira Armstrong, Fargo, ND; son, Clint (Chris) Armstrong (Haleigh Boese) Harwood, ND; Hannah (Tatum)Shaffer, West Fargo, ND; daughter, Heidi Armstrong (Remington, Sterling and Daxton Whatule) Santa Clarita, CA; Colton (Jessi) Armstrong, Fargo ND; Steele (Elle) Armstrong, (Lincoln, Callum and Krew) Kailua, HI; brother, Randy (Pam) Armstrong, Wahpeton, ND; Gordon (Becky) Armstrong, Chokio, MN; Curtis Armstrong, Lacrosse, WI; sisters-in-law, Rosie Armstrong, Laura Armstrong, and Deb Armstrong, as well many nieces and nephews and two loving furrbabies, Sassy and Chatty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Richard Armstrong, Timothy Armstrong and Terry Armstrong.
