Roger Allan McDonald, 87, passed away on May 2nd, 2023, in Sanford Hospice Care, in Fargo, ND.

Roger was born in Kindred, ND on December 15th, 1935, to Allan and Clara (Reistad) McDonald. He attended rural school at Helendale #3 for the first four years, then attended school in Leonard, ND where he graduated in 1954. He served in the Army from 1957-1959. He attended College at Concordia and Moorhead State, Minnesota and began farming in 1960.

He married Virginia Schauer from Regent, ND on December 11th, 1965, in Fargo, ND.

They made their home on the east half of Section 10 in Helendale township, rural Leonard, where he lived until his passing. A lifelong farmer, he also raised hogs and registered Angus cattle until his retirement in 2001. He continued helping as needed on the farm almost up to his passing. He served on the Leonard Lutheran Church board, Woods Elevator board, Helendale Township board, Chaffee Lynchburg Condo board, Leonard Oil Company board, and was a member of the Leonard Lions over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth, and infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; four children, Mark, Fargo, ND; Michelle (Laurent Charbonnet) Burton, Bellingham, WA, and her sons, Chase Burton, Japan; Jacob Burton, Bellingham, WA. Brian (Cathy) McDonald and their children, Ethan, Abigail, and Claire of Leonard, ND; and Christopher (Kelly) McDonald and their children Cort, Jack, and Morgan of Leonard, ND; two nieces and a nephew in California.
