Roger Stinton passed away on October 26, 2023, in Surprise, Arizona, at the age of 59. Surrounded by his loving family, including Karen Stinton, children Brandon, Carla, and Aaron Stinton, and sister Rosalie Schumacher, Roger peacefully passed away with the support of Hospice of the Valley. Born on December 17, 1963, in Fargo, North Dakota.
Roger was born on December 17, 1963 to Herbert and Sandra Stinton in Fargo, ND. He grew up on the north side of Fargo. There he attended Fargo North High School and graduated in 1982. Following his passion for numbers and finance, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at North Dakota State University, graduating in 1987. Shortly after his college, he made the bold decision to move to Phoenix, Arizona, where he would spend the majority of his adult life. In 1990, Roger furthered his education by completing a Master’s in Business Administration with a focus on Finance.
Roger dedicated his career to the field of Healthcare Administration, working in various executive roles at esteemed organizations such as Cigna, Great West, Arizona Health Care Foundation, HonorHealth and Blue Cross Blue Shield North Dakota. He took immense pride in his work, making a significant impact in the healthcare industry and serving as an influential figure in his role as an executive.
Outside of work, Roger found joy in numerous activities and hobbies. He was an avid golfer and loved the thrill of downhill skiing and hiking in the beautiful Arizona landscapes. Roger’s competitive side came alive on the hockey rink. He enjoyed playing racquet sports, specifically racquetball and tennis. A fitness enthusiast, he embraced yoga and group workouts as part of his balanced lifestyle. Music also resonated within Roger, and he found solace in impromptu guitar playing. He enjoyed spending quality time with his loved ones, engaging in leisurely games of pool, and relishing the beauty of his meticulously landscaped home illuminated by ambient lighting and the soothing sound of wind chimes.
Roger was devoted to his family. . He leaves behind his cherished children, Aaron (Tawny), Brandon (Carla), and Kyle who brought immense joy and pride to his life. His grandchildren, Dexter, Sloan, and Saxa, were the lights of his world, filling his days with laughter and love. Roger’s sister, Rosalie, remained a constant presence throughout his life, and their bond was unbreakable. Their early life together was greatly impacted by their close relationship with their grandmother, Thea. Homemade lefse was a favorite after school treat. He had a special bond with his nephew Christopher (Katie) and their children as well.
On September 11, 1987, Roger married Karen Stinton (Jensen), a woman who captured his heart. Although they later divorced, their close friendship and shared dedication to their children endured, and Roger was forever grateful for Karen’s unwavering support during his battle with illness.
Roger’s memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Hope Lutheran Church North Campus in Fargo, ND with a visitation one hour prior. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:30 pm in the Harvest Room at the Holiday Inn: 3803 13th Ave S Fargo, ND 58103. Burial will take place at Valley Grove Cemetery near Kloten, ND at a later date.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Rajesh Bagai, Roger’s compassionate oncologist, who supported him throughout his challenging journey with grace and expertise. They also wish to express their thanks to the exceptional doctors, nurses, and palliative care staff at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center for their attentive care. The family holds immense gratitude for the compassionate team at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona, for providing comfort to Roger during his final days. Most importantly, they want to acknowledge Karen Stinton for her unwavering love and devotion, guiding Roger through his illness with strength and compassion.
