Bernard Roger Wright was born on May 3, 1937, the son of Bernard and Drusilla (McDonald) Wright, in Moorhead, MN. He grew up on the family farm near Caledonia, ND. He graduated from Caledonia High School in 1955 and began farming with his father. Roger was united in marriage to DeVonne Johnson on August 21, 1960, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, ND. Together they made their home near Caledonia where they farmed. Roger retired from farming in 1996, but kept very active with many projects and various jobs. He began working part time reading meters for Nodak Electric in 1997, and continued until February of 2003, and also worked driving tractor for Nettum Farms during this time. During his 43 years of farming, Roger also ran many small businesses including camper and snowmobile sales and machine repairs. Roger was also very active in many organizations including, Farmers Union of Cummings, the Lions Club of Shelly, and served in the Air National Guard from 1956 until 1963. He was an active member of the Shelly Marsh River Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Roger greatly appreciated the many visits and prayers offered by all of his friends at Shelly church. Roger loved devoting time to his children and grandchildren and was very proud of all of his family. He enjoyed the many days spent at Maple Lake, the time tending to his garden, woodworking and refinishing, playing golf, restoring antique cars, and simply visiting with his family friends and neighbors. Roger is survived by his loving wife, DeVonne Wright of Cummings, ND; his children, Kari (Rocky) Nettum of Caledonia, ND; Nathan (Kathy) Wright of Farmington, MN; and Jennifer (Ron) Pieper of Woodstock, GA; his grandchildren, Dustin, Brandon, and Kyah Nettum; and Emily and Ashley Wright; and Mitchell, Kyle and Sydney Pieper. He is also survived by his brother, Donovan (Jean) Wright of Mentor, MN; and his sister, Susan (George) Ackre of Cando, ND; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. FUNERAL: 11AM Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Shelly Marsh River Lutheran Church in Shelly, MN VISITATION: 5-7 PM Friday, June 27, 2003, with a prayer service at 7 PM in Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro, ND - and one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday BURIAL: Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia, ND (Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro)
