My heart is with you and your families. Dixie, Kristie and Brad. Your kids were so blessed to have Woody as a grandpa! I’m so happy that I had a precious moment to remember before Fran passed. Woody and I had such a nice lunch and visit. He was so generous with his conversation and always such a gentle man! I won’t soon forget either of them! I love you guys and will be praying for some peace and healing.

Roland was born October 6th, 1945, in Breckenridge, MN, to Ardy and Velma Woodbury. He grew up on a farm in rural Barney, ND, and attended Antelope Township schools before transferring to Wyndmere High School where he graduated in 1964. He continued his education at North Dakota State University earning his bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1969. During his time at NDSU he began dating Frances Hammond and they were wed on August 26, 1967. In 1969 he joined the Army, where he proudly served until 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1975.
Roland and Fran made their home on the Woodbury farmstead in Antelope Township where he farmed, and they raised three children over the course of 38 years. After retiring, they moved to Fargo, where he found free time to golf, fish, spoil the grandkids and of course cheering for the Bison of NDSU!
During retirement, they spent five years in Montana before returning to Fargo in 2018, consistently escaping the cold as snowbirds during the winter months. Roland and Fran had 58 years together before her death on March 28, 2026, a mere 7 weeks ago.
Roland is survived by daughters Dixie Daleske of Waseca, MN, Kristi (Rob) Gappert of Missoula, MT, and Brad (Michelle) Woodbury of Belgrade, MT; six grandchildren Sophia Woodbury, Otto Daleske, Aiden and Autumn Gappert, and Everett and Elliott Woodbury; two great grandchildren, Aria and Anarah Badue; sisters Sharon Moffet and Denise Ness; sister-in-law Janice Quam and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
