Rose Lauinger, 83, of Fargo, ND died Monday, February 20, 2023 peacefully at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

She was born on June 5, 1939 in Bowdle, SD to Peter and Rosina (Inberi) Heilman. Rose was raised by her grandmother following the death of her mother shortly after birth. Then a few years later she joined the family and her sisters raised her. Rose united in marriage to Conrad Lauinger on September 16, 1957 and they lived on a farm in Strasburg for 10 years before making their home in Fargo where they raised their four children.

Rose babysat until retirement.

Rose is survived by her children, Joyce (Dr. Roger) Coffey, Arnie Lauinger, Richard (Wanda) Lauinger, and Curtis Lauinger; grandchildren, Dr. Brooke (Daryl) Baker, Jardie (Lydia) Lauinger, Benjamin (Sierra) Coffey, Christopher (Kelly) Lauinger, Sutton (Sheena) Lauinger, Cejay Lauinger; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Florence (Paul) Malsom and Josephine Mathern; and sister in law, Eleanor Heilman.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad; parents; daughter in law, Stacy Lauinger; grandchild, Steve Lauinger; brothers, Joseph (Erlis) Heilman, Pius (Nettie) Heilman, George Heilman, Raymond Heilman; sisters, Lena (Benedict) Gisi, Virginia (Sebastian) Schmaltz; and brother in law, Blase Mathern.

  3. We’re so sorry to hear of Rose’s passing. She took such good care of our children, Karissa and Jacob, from the time they were infants until they went to grade school. She and Connie were so special to our family and we kept in touch with them through the years. They even came to the kids’ high school graduation parties. She was so fun to visit with and we will dearly miss her. Our sincere sympathy to Rose’s family. She was a gem.
