Roy Strassberg

November 26, 1946 ~ May 3, 2014
Roy A. Strassberg, 66, Moorhead, MN passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. He was born November 26, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN to Fred and Petra (Thunshelle) Strassberg. He grew up in Shelly, MN and graduated from Halstad High School in 1965. Following graduation, he attended Moorhead State University and Interstate Business College.
On June 20, 1970 Roy was united in marriage to Marvyl Halvorson in Hillsboro, ND. The couple made their home and raised their twin daughters in Fargo.
Roy proudly worked for 40 years at Steiger/Case-IH/CNH retiring as a quality engineer. He very much enjoyed his work and his coworkers.
Roy was blessed to be a member of AA for 33 years.
Roy had many hobbies, including playing his guitars, riding his motorcycles and in retirement, speeding around in his beloved Corvette. Roy cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, whether it be travelling, watching movies, or just sitting around telling stories. He adored his granddaughter, Diana, who will always be Papa’s Number 1.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marvyl; daughters, Mindy (Jarod) Bloom, Acton, MA; and Angie (fiancé, Brent Casavant) Strassberg, St. Paul, MN; granddaughter, Diana Strassberg Bloom; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Donald and Roland.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Hospice of the Red River Valley, and to friends and family for their loving support.
I want to thank everyone who wrote in Roy’s guestbook. It is so comforting to hear from you.
Thanks, Marvyl

I have many great memories of Roy as a kid tagging along with him and my dad to Bison football games. The two of them loved to sit up in those old south side bleachers and go bananas over their favorite team. My favorite Roy memory was a homecoming game ‘SU played against Mankato back in the 80’s. My pops couldn’t make it and Roy was gracious enough to come get me and take me with. I must have been 8 or 9. We went absolutely bonkers all game long. We lost on a missed controversial field goal and of course we went nuts because the refs clearly, in our minds, made the wrong call. We drowned our sorrows over cokes and burgers. He had a larger than life bellow and laugh. His personality was larger. I’ll always remember that about it. My condolences to the Strassberg family. One day we’ll see him on the flip side.
My family’s thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. Roy was a great person and will be missed.
