Russell Hjelle, 68, of Hillsboro, ND passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Sanford Hospital, Hillsboro, ND with his son Jordan at his side.
Russell Glen Hjelle was born July 14, 1956, in Greenbush, Minnesota, son of James and Betty Hjelle. Russell attended Marshall County Central Schools in Newfolden, Minnesota and graduated in 1974.
Russell’s trucking career then led him to Fargo, North Dakota where he spent a number of years on the road. It was in Fargo that he met his former wife, and celebrated the birth of his son, Jordan. In 1993, the family moved to Hillsboro, North Dakota after the purchase of the Sport Bar. He loved spending time with his patrons and holding events at the bar.
Russell had a passion for all things cars, snowmobiles, and racing. You would find he and his son riding snowmobile in the winter and attending every nearby dirt racetrack in the summer. During the school year, you would find Russell at all his son’s sports, school, and church events. He never missed one.
He is survived in death by his son, Jordan (Kaci) Hjelle; 3 grandsons, Elias, Isaiah, and Jonah; and his siblings, Wayne (Tracy) Hjelle, Sherry (Dale) Warne, and Dean Hjelle.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Hjelle.
