Ruth Marie Siegert, 93, died on January 6, 2024, at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.

Ruth was born on April 14, 1930, to Richard and Emma Tveton Peterson, on the Peterson family farm near Reynolds, ND. She was baptized April 18, 1930, at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN. Ruth’s father died when Ruth was just 3 weeks old.

She was confirmed in June 1945 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Ruth and her mother Emma and sister Florence spent many summers on her grandparents’ farm near Pelican Rapids, MN. Ruth graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1948. Soon after graduating she started working at Northwestern State Bank in Hillsboro.

She was united in marriage to Robert A. Flieth on February 10, 1949, at Our Saviors Lutheran in Hillsboro. Robert died on February 18, 1974.

On January 29, 1977, she married Marvin Siegert, and they made their home on the Siegert Family Farm near Hillsboro. She retired from the bank as she was now a farmer’s wife and farm life was very busy.

Ruth and Marvin traveled extensively over the years. She was very proud of the fact she was able to travel to 46 states. She also traveled internationally to Indonesia, Norway, and Greece.

After retiring, Marvin and Ruth made their winter home in Pharr, Texas. It was here where Ruth became “quite the artist” and painted many landscape paintings. She acquired an extensive collection and has shared many of these paintings with family.

Ruth became a charter member of Osman-Lane 4172 VFW Auxiliary in 1952 where she held an office for over 50 years. Ruth was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Ruth was an active member and past President of WELCA at Our Saviors.

Ruth was a member of the Sons of Norway. She was thrilled to go to Norway in 2000 to see the country of her heritage.

Ruth was a charter member and former president of the Harmony Homemakers.

Ruth enjoyed visiting with family and friends and always had a cup of coffee and baked treats at the ready. She enjoyed quilting, bible studies, bowling, golfing, cards, and bingo. She was always up for an invite to go and do anything.

Survivors include her children, Roger (Joni) Flieth, Betsy (Doug) Tate, Barb (Dave) Ferguson, Kari (Jim) Anderson, Kurt Siegert, Jason (Corrie) Siegert; daughter-in-law, Pam Flieth; 21 Grandchildren; and 30 Great Grandchildren, with 2 more expected in May.
She is also survived by 4 sisters-in-law, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Flieth and Marvin Siegert; parents, Richard and Emma Peterson; sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Duane “Buddy” Sorum; sons, Robert “Bobby” Flieth, Ryan Flieth, Richard Flieth, Russell Flieth; and daughter-in-law, Patsy Flieth.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2024, with a prayer service at 7 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. The funeral will be held 11 AM Friday at Our Savior’s with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro.
