Ruth Sorlie

Ruth E. Sorlie, 74, West Fargo, ND died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at MeritCare Pallative Care in Fargo, ND. Ruth Eileen Amundson was born in Kindred, ND on June 14, 1935. Her parents were Theodore and Alma (Ecklie) Amundson. Ruth was baptized and confirmed at Walcott Lutheran Church and was a life long member. She sang in the choir and participated in Luther League and other church activities. Ruth attended elementary and high school in Walcott and graduated in 1953. After high school she was employed at various jobs beginning at Kindred State Bank. She spent a year in Tacoma, Washington and attended the State School of Science at Wahpeton, ND. In January 1976 she married Burton Svenkerud of Kindred. Burton passed away in October 2006. Ruth worked for many years at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Fargo until her retirement. She then moved into the Cooperative Living Center in West Fargo, In June of 2008 she married Ken Sorlie, Fargo, ND. She was a longtime member of the Walcott American Legion Auxillary, Sons of Norway and a Associate Member of Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. She is survived by Ken, and his children, Wayne (Joanie) Sorlie, San Francisco, CA, Carol (Mike) Daly, Sioux Falls, SD, a grandson, Derek Daly, brother Omar and wife Rita of Walcott, nine nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by parents and three brothers Arden, Burton and their wives and infant brother Joseph. The Funeral Service for Ruth will be will be Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 11:00am at Walcott Lutheran Church, Walcott, ND. Burial will follow at Walcott Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be Tuesday, October 13th at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND at 7:00pm with Visitation from 5:00-7:00pm.
