Ruth Strohmeier, age 77 of Bloomington, MN passed away surrounded by her family on January 14, 2025, in Fargo, ND.

Ruth Lynn Helvig was born on March 24, 1947, to Milton and Georgia (Eldridge) Helvig in Two Harbors, MN. She graduated from Two Harbors High School and Duluth Business School, where she made lifelong friends.

On February 5, 1966, she married David Sannes in Two Harbors, MN. They welcomed daughter Dawn and moved to the Minneapolis area. They lived in Edina, MN for many years. She worked at GMAC for 37 years, where she made many close friends.

In 1987, she married Fred Strohmeier. After retirement, they built a home on a peaceful lake near Fifty Lakes, MN. She enjoyed nature and many outdoor activities such as playing golf, fishing, boating, and skiing. She shared her love of the outdoors and shopping with her family, treasuring time with her daughter, grandchildren, and her beloved dogs. She spent many winters traveling and exploring warm locations with friends and family members. She especially loved the tropical waters of Florida and Hawaii.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Dawn Sannes Osborne of Fargo, ND; grandson, Ryan (Amanda) Siewert, Eden Prairie, MN; granddaughter, Claire Siewert (fiancé Logan Jaszkowiak) Brooklyn Center, MN; sister, Alice Hondzinski, Baton Rouge, LA; brother, Richard Helvig, Punta Gorda, FL; five nieces and a nephew.

She is preceded in death by her parents;sister, Joan (and Merle) Norgren; and in-laws Dan Hondzinski; and Kathy Helvig.

Ruth always greeted everyone with enthusiasm and a warm smile. Her kindness, strength, generosity, and love for her family and friends will be greatly missed.

A private celebration of life will be planned later this summer.

  1. Ruth was a dear friend and co-worker. She always presented such a positive attitude! She will be missed. Comfort and blessings to the family.

  2. Rith was a beautiful friend and colleague. I visited her when I was up in Emily MN and their lake home was beautiful! She loved the hummingbirds and had many feeders! I will miss her friendship and always positive attitude! My condolences to the family.

  3. A time to rem inis our many family times together over the miles. Ruth’s home was always a welcoming spot. They were Hosts to a few Cousin Reunions plus home for mr travelling to family gatherings.
    Ruth lived with me a couple years when I learned brewing chicken bones for soup. We always were treated to boat rides around the lake, raft swimming, fishing including dinner, a golf game or two plus town outings.

  4. Ruth was my dear friend for 53 years. We managed trips together even though I moved all over. I only wish I went to see her more often when she could not travel anymore. Reach out to your friends and family. None of us know how much time we have left!
