Ruth Vetter

ruth vetter

Our charming and witty aunt has died. Ruth Evelyn Vetter was 97 ½. She was born and raised in Clementsville and Jamestown, ND, the daughter of Norwegian and Danish immigrant parents. Ruthie's siblings were Alex Sorensen of Hunter, Esther Young of Jamestown and John Sorensen of Amery, WI. She is survived by nieces and nephews and their families. Ruthie especially enjoyed the time she spent with the little kids and babies. Ruthie had a full and interesting life. In 1942, she married J. Kenneth Vetter of Deerfield, IL. Together, they lived in Washington, DC; Deerfield, IL where she served many elective terms as township clerk; Kansas City where Ruth was the manager of a senior's residence; Rhinelander, WI where they owned and managed Greystone Lodge both summer and winter; Waukegan, IL where Ruth was an adjudicator for the state unemployment office. She was also an artist. Her family appreciates her lovely paintings and portraits. For many years, Ruthie and her husband enjoyed their wonderful cabin in Michigan near the lake. Her husband, Ken, died there in 1979. Grateful thanks to Maureen Hahn for Ruthie's loving home care, to Melanie Klinkhammer and her wonderful support staff at Kind-er Care Home in West Fargo, and to Miranda and Amanda from Hospice of the Red River Valley. There will be a family memorial service in the summer. Ruthie will be interred in Jamestown with her mother and sister.

    Trish,
I am so sorry for your loss. Ruthie was a grand lady. You were so good to her and I’m sure you’ll miss her lots. Hope to make it to Jamestown for the memorial service. Love, Ardie

  2. Bismarck ND
Oh Trish – now I know why you have been on my mind in recent days. Just ran across a picture from the cabin. Ruthie was so lucky to have you and your family in her life. I so enjoyed meeting her and have fond memories of drinking wine and our pontoon ride with her. She was such a character and added fun to our lake time with the two of you. You were so considerate of her needs and her wishes – a gift to her. Love, Suzi

  3. Trish, thank you so much for all you’ve done for Auntie Ruth all of these years. It has been much appreciated by her family. Jane

  4. Richfield, Mn A special thanks to my mom, Trish Young, Ruthie’s niece. She has provided and arranged good care for Ruthie for many years.
    “Yes, boss.” -Ruthie
