Sally Mae Fishman
January 1, 1970 ~ May 11, 2009
Sally Mae Fishman passed away Monday, May 11, 2009 at MeritCare, South University Drive in Fargo, North Dakota.
Sally was born in Kankakee, Illinois on September 21, 1920 to Claude Howard and Geneva Grace (Farley) Howard. She graduated from high school and business school and for a short time served in the U.S. Army. She and her eternal companion, Ronald Fishman, met in recruiter training school, where he walked up to her one day and informed her, “I’m going to marry you”. He was 19 years old and she was 30 when they married—love knows no age. They were married on December 26, 1951.
Sally lived in New Jersey, Japan, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Germany during her husband’s military service. They ultimately settled in Oklahoma City where she worked for Sears until her retirement. In August 2004 they moved to Fargo, ND to be closer to their daughter and her family.
Sally loved poetry and wrote many poems. She shared her poems by having them self-published. She also painted and drew pictures. She was a great cook. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and was an active member of the Officer’s Wives Club during her husband’s time in the Army.
She is survived by her daughter, Minka (Brad) Leeser, Moorhead, MN; son Damon Brett Fishman, Fargo; grand children, Michael Damon Leeser, Moorhead; Becky (Dale) Disher of Horace; and great grand children Josie, Zackary and Jessica Disher all of Horace.
The Funeral will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Boulger Funeral Home. There is Visitation one hour prior to the service.
