Sandy Bartunek, 72, Fargo, ND, died August 7, 2023 in her home.
Sandy was born November 5, 1950, in Sisseton, SD, to Ruben and Delores (Roeder) Medenwald. Raised in rural Lidgerwood, ND, she was known as a hard worker, helping on the farm and doing much of the milking “by hand” as well as working part-time at the Lidgerwood Tastee Freeze. In high school, she was also a runner for the girls track team that went onto the state track meet. Her devotion and solid work ethic carried her through her entire life.
She married Alan Bartunek on November 8, 1969, and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Ansgar’s Hospital in Moorhead, MN, while her husband continued his college education. The couple moved to Minneapolis, MN and she took a course in key punch computing. They then returned to the Fargo-Moorhead area and she worked with Warner’s Insurance and then as a Clerk of Courts for Cass County for nearly 27 years before retiring in 2017.
Sandy loved the outdoors, driving out of town and being in lakes country. She was a huge animal lover of her favorite canine, Sadie, and most recently, Murphy, a new kitten. During retirement, she filled her days with jigsaw puzzles, word searches, trips to the casino and visiting family.
Sandy is survived by her son, Charles (Erika) Bartunek and daughter Nathonia (Kasey) Young, grandchildren, Gabriel, Grace and Noelle Bartunek and Kyrian and Arilynn Young, sisters Deborah (Jim) Woitaszewski, Ione (Steve) Hermes and brothers Ruben (Jane) Medenwald and Tim Medenwald and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Dayl K. Ruud, sister Sylvia and brother-in-law, Ronald Ceroll and sister, Sheila and brother-in-law, Delas Schultz.
