Sandra "Sandie" Johnson
March 11, 1949 ~ January 8, 2020
Sandie passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 70.
Sandra M. Ydstie was born on March 11, 1949, the daughter of Harlum and Eunice (Hage) Ydstie, in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Hillsboro where she received her education, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1967. She later attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. Sandie was united in marriage to Mark O. Johnson on June 15, 1968 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. They made their home in Hillsboro, where they raised their 3 children. Mark and Sandie worked side by side at NAPA until Mark semi-retired in 2006 and then relocated to their summer home in Battle Lake, MN.
Sandie enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. She spent numerous hours volunteering at Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. Sandie was known as the book lady. Sandie was a member of Eldorado Willing Workers Homemaker’s Club, Battle Lake Good Samaritan Auxiliary, and Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, MN. Most of all, Sandie was a mother before anything else. Her greatest blessings were her children and grandchildren and she cherished the time spent with them. She was proud of each and every one of them and enjoyed going to their activities. She also loved spending time with family and friends.
Sandie is survived by her children – Angie (Charles) Olson of Battle Lake, MN; Chris (Jennifer) Johnson of Hillsboro, ND; Amy (Jim) Olson of West Fargo, ND; her grandchildren – Ashley (Kyle) Thompson, Dustin Olson, Karlee Johnson, Kaylie Olson, Abbigail Olson, Maddison Olson, and Brooklyn Olson. Also surviving are her siblings – Pam (Roy) Gensrich of Northwood, ND; Cindy (Mike) Eperjesi of Gillette, WY; and Sue (Mike) Loverude of Enid, OK; and several nieces and nephews. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all at this time. She was such a lovely lady and will be deeply missed!
Sandy and the Ydstie cousins use to play kickball during the family reunions each summer. It was a fun time for the cousins to interact. This was a game we played in our teens some times at Sandy’s home place.
Betty and I wish you our sympathies as you grieve Sandy’s passing.
We go by Sandie’s place each morning on our walk and think of her – she was a great neighbor, so friendly and fun to talk with. Thinking of your family and sending comfort to each of you.
