Sarah Gust, 62, peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by family on Saturday September 26th 2015 after a long illness, but her trademark stubbornness and tell-it-like-it-is personality will never be forgotten. Sarah was born in Fargo, graduated high school from Mapleton and worked for American Crystal Sugar for many years. In 2012, she graduated with honors, receiving her Associates in accounting. She also retired that year. Sarah was world renowned for not holding back her opinions. She was highly proficient in cursing and she liked four-letter words just about as much as she loved traveling and cross-country road trips. She always told the truth, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. But for what she lacked in stature, she made up in generosity and charisma. She worked very hard and long hours for many years, but selflessly sacrificed a lot for her children as a single mother. Sarah loved riding her motorcycles. In fact, I guarantee she's riding one now and if you close your eyes and tilt your head just so you can hear her revving her Harley, grinning ear-to-ear, wildly laughing. She also enjoyed spending her time outdoors. Sarah especially loved the beach, watching and listening while the waves crashed into the shore, walking the shoreline collecting seashells. More than anything, though, Sarah overwhelmingly loved her grandchildren. She loved to talk about them, shop for them and of course she wanted to spend every minute she possibly could with them. Almost as much as Sarah loved her soaps, she also dearly loved her children. Famously opinionated and short-tempered, Sarah handed down those qualities to her daughter Cody (Dan), 31 of Fargo, ND. She passed on her kind-heartedness and general happiness to her son, Tyler (Natalie), 28 of Claremont, NC. Sarah took extreme pride in her three adorable grandchildren Peyton Nissen (5), Evelyn Portlock (4) and Abram Portlock (1) who will all affectionately remember her as "Gramma." Sarah is also survived by her brothers Jim (Christie) of Wisconsin, Danny (Janel) of ND and sister, Gloria (Marvin) of ND. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Dan and Mary Gust, and her daughter Amanda Nissen. We send tremendous amounts of thanks to the amazing team of doctors, nurses and staff at Hennepin County Medical Center MICU for not only providing care and comfort but peace and tranquility in our mother’s transition from this life into the next. Immediate family will gather privately, at later time, for a mandatory Blue Moon beer, for a final toast in Sarah's honor, the greatest mom in the world.

I spent a lot of years working with Sarah an yep she was right to the point no beating around the bush about it, but she had that laughter an that smile that would change anybody mood from bad to good an made a great pot of coffee, I used to get teased alot about the amount of time I spent in the lab, but was always nice chatting with your mom, I know I will miss talking an seeing her when I come back put was nice to call an check up an see how she was doing. I am sure now she has met up with some other acsc employees that have gone before us I know that she is in good hands with the almighty away from pain an struggles as she put it she was what you would say a one of a kind with a heart as big as her, One thing she has left tho is a lot of fond memories to past down to loved ones that love there mom & gramma..I hope you find peace in the days to come an I believe your mom thought you did the best you could do for her to make comfortable .Rest in peace my friend till we meet again Sarah.

  9. Sarah was a great woman. Alot of spunk and alot of love in a little body. She will be missed by many but left one heck of a legacy.

  10. Sarah was one of my best friends while going to go school together at Mapleton. I have many great and funny memories. . . . Like the time she was staying over night and it stormed the next day so we ate the whole box of Hersey candy bars that I was going to share with the class the next for my birthday. . . .or the time I stayed over at her place and while making popcorn she figured she could stand on the cupboard and put the cover on the popper while tied to a string. Her parents were very patient! Sarah was quite an athlete. We were cheerleaders for many years together and I still can’t figure out how she could jump that high! I have run into her a few times after graduation and every time she said, “Patty Gohdes!” And then came a big hug! Rest In Peace Sarah and thanks for the memories. (Some that I can’t mention)💕
