Selma Leum Hillsboro, North Dakota Selma Leum, age 90, of Hillsboro, ND, died on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Hillsboro Medical Center. Selma Louise Ydstie was born on April 28, 1919, in Eldorado Township to Nelius and Nikolena (Eidum) Ydstie. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She was educated at Eldorado School #5 and graduated from high school at the School for the Blind at Bathgate, ND. On December 31, 1952, she married James Leum in Moorhead, MN. The lived on the Leum farm until 1961 when they moved to Hillsboro. James died in 1983. She was a 4-H leader and also ran a day care center from her home for 18 years. She considered all the kids she babysat to be her special children. She also loved to travel and took many trips all over the country with her daughters in their motor home. She held a special love for her therapy dogs, Pico and Kia. She was a life long member of St. Olaf Lutheran until it closed in 1995. She later joined Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra and Sherryl, both of Hillsboro; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Ydstie of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Alvin, Norman, and Paul; and her sisters, Alice and Gladys. Visitation: 4-7 PM Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro – and also one hour prior to the service at St. Olaf Chapel in Hillsboro Funeral: 10:30 AM Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the St. Olaf Chapel in Hillsboro Burial: St. Olaf Church Cemetery near Hillsboro Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
