Sharon Wermedahl, 87, Fargo, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at her home under the care of Home Instead, Fargo.
Sharon was the first child of William E. Schmokel and Joanne (Nasiedlak) Schmokel. She attended elementary school in Prior Lake, MN, graduated from Shakopee High School and received a BA and MA from Mankato State College. She taught in Prior Lake and at Central High School in St. Paul. She also on the staff at Moorhead State University as a counselor.
She married the love of her life, Boyd Wermedahl on June 12, 1971 and set up residency on South 8th St in Fargo.
She was a founding member and first president of the Fargo Heritage Society as well as serving as the past president of the Fine Arts Club of Fargo. She was a 40 year long season ticket holder for the Winnipeg Ballet and enjoyed attending over 100 performances with Boyd throughout the years. She was also a member of the Fargo/Moorhead Horticulture Society and the Restus Bronson Catholic Study Club.
She was an excellent cook, having grown up with her parents who operated a bar/restaurant. She also enjoyed wintering in Austin, TX and later in parts of the southern Gulf States and in Stillwater, MN at Sandy Schmokel “Resort.”
She is survived by her husband, Boyd; sister-in-law, Eileen Schmokel, Prior Lake, MN; godchildren, Sandy Schmokel, Lake Elmo, MN, Shelley (Allen) Schmokel-Joscher; nieces and nephews, Scott (June) Schmokel, Mike (Kris) Schmokel, Paul (Keri) Schmokel, Jeff Schmokel, Suzie (Brad) Lindow, Jim (Michelle) Ludowese, Lori (Vince) Paulus, Juliann Hirst, Charles (Christina) Hirst; sister-in-law, Gayle Hirst, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brother, William J. Schmokel; sister, Roberta J. Ludowese and aunt Evelyn Baer.
Memorials preferred to the Sisters of the Presentation Prayer Center; North Dakota State Historical Society Endowment Fund.
Mr. Wermedahl and family, I was sorry to see Sharon has passed. I have known you and Sharon for years as you were my 5 the grade teacher at Jefferson and Sharon was my leader for Candy Stripers at St John’s Hospital. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God be with you at this difficult time
Sharon and Boyd were our backyard neighbors , they were on 8th street and we were on 7 th. They were wonderful friends and neighbors. Great friends of my parents the DuBords. I remember having pie and coffee many times. She will be missed and remembered Prayers to all the family Mary DuBord Mahoney

So sorry at the death of Sharon. We went to PL High School at the same time as Sharon, Bill and Bert.
