Shelley’s service will be livestreamed ay 2:00 PM Monday, March 17, 2025:

Shelley Jo (Vangsness) Bock, 70, Moorhead, MN passed away in her home Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Shelley was born on July 12, 1954 to Harlyn and Ruby (Christmann) Vangsness in Moorhead, MN. Growing up, she attended Madison Elementary, Ben Franklin Jr High and Fargo North High School (Class of 1972). She attended NDSU, becoming the first female sports editor of The Spectrum. She left school to focus on being a wife and mother, but later returned and obtained her bachelor’s degree.

Shelley married Bruce Bock on April 23, 1976. After living in Germany where Bruce was stationed for about a year, they returned to Fargo, ND and raised their four girls. They split amicably in 2007. Shelley worked for the post office, Menards, selling Tupperware, and other various jobs, but her main focus was being a mom.

In her earlier years, Shelley enjoyed bowling, waterskiing, collecting raccoons, and casino trips. Later in life, she preferred watching movies and reading true crime and cheesy romance books. She especially enjoyed watching NDSU basketball and football and the Minnesota Vikings. She attended several Frisco championship games and a Vikings game. Her favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren and girls.

She was loved by many. She unofficially adopted many of her girls’ and grandchildren’s friends. Many called her Mom or Gramma Shelley.

Shelley is survived by her daughters, Trista (Steve) Blake, Kyla Bock, Alysia (Luke) Taylor, and Siana (Amber) Bock; grandchildren, Justin Viestenz, Kaitlin and Seralyn Blake, Elliannah, Temra and Jakoby Taylor, Kaiden Zeise-Bock, Lacie Meyer, Raelene Roos, Lane and Dakota Fotheringham; great-granddaughter due in April 2025; and brother, Paul Vangsness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; older sister, Ginnette Ehli; father of her girls, Bruce Bock; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held on March 17, 2025 at 2 pm at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior. A private graveside ceremony will be held in late spring/early summer.

  1. I miss you so much, Mom!!! I know you’ll be by my side from now on but it’s not the same! My heart is breaking and I feel so empty…if I would have known that the last time I would see you was at the clinic in Edina, I would’ve hugged you tighter and begged you & Sera to wait for me. That’s a regret I’ll have to live with. I should’ve told you “I love you” more; more hugs, more kisses…More time together!!! I failed; please forgive me! I’ll see you when it’s my time; until then, lay away a place for me and know we’ll NEVER EVER FORGET YOU!!! I LOVE YOU, MOM!!!

  2. Shelley was a lovely lady. Always had a smile and a nice word for me when I saw her. I’m so sorry to the Bock girls and family for this tremendous loss.

  3. This candle is for you Shelley! We go back to the beginning of grade school. Our paths drifted apart during junior/senior high school, but I am so glad that we reconnected at our 50th class reunion. I loved our monthly lunches with the others from Madison. You shared what you were enduring physically but never complained. You had one of the best memories of all of us! You will be missed Shelley Vangsness ….

  4. Shelley, we go all the way back to junior high and high school. We followed each other to NDSU. When we were both young mothers, we would occasionally get together with our children. Then I moved away. We reconnected through Facebook and at our 50th class reunion. I will miss our chats.

  5. Shelley you are so loved and missed! Keep a watch over each of us that love you so much! Please give us a sign with a visit! Love you always Momma Shelley!

  6. Momma Shelly!! I miss you so much already. I miss your facebook comments, and your loving <3's on my pictures. I know we never physically met but i have known you pretty much my ENTIRE teenage and adult life. I am so proud to have said i built a relationship with your daughter through Kiwibox, BSB chat room, and MSN/AIM/YAHOO messengers but i am also proud that i spoke to you on many accounts on the phone over the past 30 years or so. Back when long distance cost a lot so we had to make sure it was OK for us to call our friends in other states (and sometimes countries with Allerz knowing so many over seas LOL) Thank you for being a good friend, and for letting Allerz cont. to have a solid friendship with me over the years, im sad that life has made us not so close anymore but i am working on being there for her in her time of need and sadness to have you gone. I LOVE YOU!! <3

  7. Mama Shelley, I’m going to miss you very much. Your hugs are unmatched and your loving heart the same. Thank you for the memories and the chance to have been able to call you Mama because that’s exactly what you were to many. Such a loving lady ❤️
