Stacey J. Schommer, 43, Fargo, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Stacey was born on June 11, 1983, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Tony and Brenda Smith.

She loved growing up by her cousins and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 2001. Following graduation, she moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area to further her education at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM), where she earned her degree.

Stacey began her career with Gate City Bank, where she remained a dedicated employee throughout her life. On October 4, 2008, she married the love of her life, Michael Schommer. Together, they made their home in West Fargo, where they built a beautiful life centered around their family, faith, and the many friendships they made along the way.

Stacey had a strong Christian faith that guided her throughout her life. She had a caring heart and genuinely enjoyed helping others, always willing to lend a hand or offer encouragement to those around her. Her faith, kindness, and love for others were evident in the way she lived her life.

Above all, Stacey treasured her role as a wife and mother. She was incredibly involved in her daughters’ lives and took great pride in their accomplishments, both on and off the court. Whether cheering on Alexis and Ava from the sidelines, celebrating their successes, or simply spending time together as a family, Stacey was always one of their biggest supporters. She was especially active in the volleyball community, where she shared her enthusiasm for the sport and developed many meaningful friendships.

Stacey is survived by her loving husband, Michael Schommer, West Fargo, ND; daughters, Alexis and Ava Schommer; parents, Tony and Brenda Smith; siblings, Kim (Jason) Pederson and Kevin Smith; grandparents, Bud and Jean Bunes and Everett and Jean Smith; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her uncle, Jeff Smith; and cousin, Joseph Latimer.

    • Sending you all so much love and prayers. 🙏🙏 Stacey was a beautiful person inside and out.

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Your faith will guide you and bring you comfort.

  2. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. We had many great times growing up as kids of Balsam. I have many fond memories growing up, working together at Walmart and cruising around Grand Rapids… Many prayers for peace and healing to those closest to Stacey and her girls to grow up to be as strong as she has been!

  3. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  4. Mike, Lexi, and Ava,

Our hearts are with you all during this incredibly difficult time. I always enjoyed our conversations while sitting together at volleyball and basketball games over the years. Her strength, positive attitude, unwavering faith, and love for God were all things I admired so much about her. Even in the midst of the yuck, she would remind me that God is good. That kind of faith and positivity was truly special.

She was one of the most positive people I’ve ever met, and it was so clear how fiercely she loved you all. Almost every time we talked, she would ask me to pray for the three of you because she worried about you more than she worried about herself. That says so much about the kind of person and mother she was.

I will miss her and the conversations we shared.

Please know that our family is here for you—not just in the days and weeks ahead, but in the months and years to come, too.

    With love and prayers,
    Betsy Christianson and family

  7. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. I enjoyed working with Stacey for many years. I appreciated her positive attitude and willingness to help me regardless of her own work schedule and later health challenges. She will be missed.

  8. I am so sorry to hear about Stacey. She was always so kind the times I got to chat with her or in passing at the schools throughout the years. Ive been praying and thinking of you all during this time. I remember how she never failed to give God glory. God bless your family.

  9. Sending love and prayers

  10. I’m so grateful I had the chance to work with Stacey for the past 8 years. She was truly one of those people who made the days a little brighter just by being there. She was always so kind, positive, and willing to help. Even through everything she was going through, she continued to have such a positive outlook. I always admired her strength. One thing I’ll always remember is how much she loved her daughters. She was so proud of them, and it was clear in the way she talked about them just how much they meant to her. She will be missed more than words can say. Sending so much love, hugs, and prayers to her daughters and family. ❤️

  11. Mr. Schommer,
We have only just met through the Deacon Flames program that my third grader recently joined. Your kindness and helpfulness have been exemplary, and I want to let you know how very sorry we are for your great loss. I am praying for Stacey, for you, and for your girls. May Stacey be immersed in Divine Mercy and your family lifted up and comforted by loving prayers.

  12. We are so very sorry to hear about this. We used to sit behind your family at church when we lived in Fargo and know of Stacey’s faith and courage. Many prayers for you all.
