It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Stephon Lee Blanchard on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024. Born on January 11th, 2006, Stephon was a vibrant and loving 18-year-old whose radiant spirit touched the lives of many.
Stephon had recently graduated from Sheyenne High School in 2024, where he left an indelible mark through his academic excellence and involvement in various extracurricular activities. His passion for learning and desire to make a difference led him to North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he was majoring in biology with dreams of becoming a neurologist. Stephon’s dedication to his studies was paralleled only by his commitment to his peers and community, making him a beloved figure among students and faculty alike.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Stephon had a deep passion for music. An avid guitar player, he could often be found strumming melodies that brought joy to those around him. His love for music was a constant source of inspiration and comfort, and he enjoyed sharing this passion with friends and family. Whether performing at local events or simply playing at home, Stephon’s talent and enthusiasm for music were unmistakable.
Stephon also excelled in the realm of E-Sports, where his skills in video gaming earned him a full-ride scholarship to college. His strategic thinking and competitive spirit made him a formidable player, and his achievements in E-Sports were a testament to his dedication and perseverance. Through gaming, Stephon forged lasting friendships and demonstrated the importance of teamwork and resilience. Stephon also enjoyed reading and had a deep thirst for knowledge.
Stephon is survived by his loving parents, Jenny Ann Carter (mom), Shannon Tremain Blanchard (father), and Joseph Maurice Carter Jr. (stepfather). He was a cherished big brother to Dayana Blanchard, Dezirae Carter, Myah Carter, and Maurice “Poppo” Carter. His grandmothers, Charmaine Blanchard, Cynthia Bay, and Linh Tran, and his grandfather, Quan Tran, will forever hold him in their hearts. He is also remembered by his great-grandmother, Marie Tran. Stephon was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Ho Tran, whose legacy he carried forward with pride.
As an amazing son, Stephon was always willing to help his mom with her businesses, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and care. He played the role of big brother with distinction, always watching out for and protecting his younger siblings. His presence was a source of comfort and guidance, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did.
Stephon’s friends remember him as someone who was always there to listen and stand by their side. His infectious smile and fun wavy curly hair could light up any room, and his kindness and empathy made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a steadfast friend, offering support and understanding in times of need.
Stephon’s family wants to stress the importance of mental health matters. They encourage everyone to reach out for help if they see someone struggling, as Stephon always believed in the power of support and compassion. His life serves as a reminder of the significance of mental well-being and the need to care for one another.
Stephon Lee Blanchard’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His achievements, passions, and the love he shared with his family and friends will be forever cherished. Please think of Stephon any time you see someone playing the guitar, as he would have wanted his music to continue bringing joy to the world.

Stephon’s Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 30th, 2024 at Living Waters Lutheran Church (4451 40th Ave S, Fargo, ND 58104). The Gathering will start at 5pm with the service at 6pm. There will be a light meal to follow.
Stephon was my guitar student at Sheyenne High School the fall semester of 2023. He was such a polite and positive young man and had a lot of music inside of him. I really enjoyed teaching him!
