Steve’s service will be viewable 1:30 P.M. Saturday, November 18,2023:

Steven J. Rodvold (“Steve”) was born on June 14, 1953, in Crosby, North Dakota, to Melvin and Alice (Smith) Rodvold. He spent his childhood years in Fortuna, ND, and at age 11 moved with his family to Crosby, ND, where he graduated from high school. High school is where he met some of his best friends, and the woman who would be by his side the rest of his life, Jeanine (Jacobson).

Following graduation from North Dakota State College of Science, Steve married Jeanine at her parents’ farm on June 16, 1973. They moved to Fargo where Steve was employed at Northern Heating as a sheet metal apprentice. He received his Journeyman Certificate in 1977. The family moved to Minot, ND in 1982 where Steve received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration-Management from Minot State University. Following graduation, Steve worked for North Dakota Opportunities in Minot, transferring to the Minnesota Migrant Council in Fargo in 1988. In 1991, Steve began his career in human resources with Noridian Mutual Insurance Company, serving as Director Human Resources Administration at the time of his retirement in 2015.

Steve enjoyed time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and relatives, kayaking, hiking, biking, Bison Football, listening to NPR and all genres of music, but his greatest passion was photography. He was able to genuinely enjoy his photography during retirement and was active in the Fargo Moorhead Camera Club up until his death. He was a past member of the Fargo/Moorhead Human Resource Association, NDSCS Special Needs Advisory Committee, and former Cub Scout den leader. Steve participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Fargo, volunteered for the Great Plains Food Bank, and for the Fargo Park District’s Clean-A-Park program. He loved art and nature and appreciated the beauty of everyday life. Above all, he was kind. Steve left this world on October 27, 2023, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Steve is survived by his wife Jeanine, their sons and grandchildren: Zach (Emily) Rodvold and their children Waylon, Miles and Avett, of Shorewood, MN and Alex (Sara) Rodvold and their daughter Alivia, of Fargo ND; brother Roger (Chris) of Roseville, CA; sister-in-law Gaye Rodvold of Bloomington, MN; sister Charlene (John) Moenkedick of Deer Creek, MN; sisters-in-law Karen (Dale) Lucas, San Antonio, TX, Bev Jacobson of Minot, Laurie (Kipp) Jenson of Minot and Luann (Danny) Roehrich, of Strasburg, ND; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Elena; brother Loren, sister Beverly and her husband Jerry Allen; brother-in-law I.J. Jacobson, sisters-in-law Margie Jacobson and Marilyn Mitchell, and nephew Erik Jacobson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1:30 PM at Boulger Funeral Home.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My heartfelt sympathies to Jeannine & family for your immense loss. I worked with Steve for many, many years. I treasure numerous work memories & experiences with Steve. He had the best sense of humor & wit. He was one of the good guys. After retirement we got together a couple times a year to catch up & hear about the grandkids. I miss Steve. The world is a sadder place without him. May his love for his family help heal your sadness & loss.

  2. I would like to express my heartfelt sympathies to Jeannine and Steve’s family. I worked with Steve for many years at Noridian. He was a great man and excelled at everything he did. I know he was very proud and happy family. When I would see him after his retirement he always showed pictures of family. I know that he will be missed by many.

  3. Steve took a chance on hiring me at BCBSND in my first official manager role in HR and I will always remember him as the nicest and most people focused HR leader I’ve come across. He was genuine and truly cared for others. Such a great man!! I’m blessed to have cross paths with him.

Deepest sympathy to the family and friends.

  4. To the Rodvold Family, I had the pleasure of working with Steve for ten years at Noridian. He was one of the most professional, yet humble man I have ever met. His fellow employees welfare and well being was his biggest concerns while performing his HR duties was very obvious, a true gentleman and friend. He will be missed. Our prayers and thoughts go out to your family.

  5. I also worked with Steve at Noridian, and he was a consummate professional. He was sometimes called on to have difficult conversations, but the kindness others have referred to was his trademark and it served everyone well. His sense of humor was sometimes hidden at work, but when on display, his humor was delightful and timed perfectly. Steve’s interesting and gentle spirit will certainly be missed.

  6. My name is Paul Molick. I wish to send my sympathies to Steves family. I also worked with Steve at Noridian. I cherish the opportunity to know Steve and to work with him. Steve had a strength of character yet he showed that strength through his humility. God bless you Steve.

  7. I’m so sorry for the loss of Steve. I knew him and Jeannie as they were clients when I worked with Russ Boyle at Edward Jones. Steve will always be remembered by many for always being such a positive man and loved his family very much. He always talked about how excited they were to go visit the kids and grandkids. Rest in peace Steve.

  8. I had the honor of working with Steve at Noridian. I was also a member of the Fargo Moorhead Camera Club, where we all benefited from Steve’s very active membership! His last year as a member he served as the Club’s President. I echo the kind words of those before me in this line of memories: Steve was always a kind man , a committed and passionate co-worker or co-member, and someone I was always glad to see and who I will miss..

My sincere condolences to his family.

  9. Dearest Jeanine and Family,
We were so saddened to learn of Steve’s passing. His kind and caring nature. His subtle quick wit, all with a twinkle in his eye. Memories we will treasure, as lifelong friends and classmates. Men like him are few and far between, and our world was a far better place because of the imprint he left. We hold you all in our thoughts and prayers.
    With our deepest sympathy.

  10. It was my honor to be able to work with Steve at Noridian for many years. We had so many challenges during his career — some positive as we grew and had to hire many employees throughout the country — and some difficult as we had to delivery the news when an office needed to close. Steve in all challenges was the consummate professional and truly and deeply felt for all his coworkers. His kindness and decency was an inspiration and example to us all.

  11. On behalf of the North Central Camera Club Council, I wish to extend my sympathies to Steve’s Family and Friends. He gave up a portion of his retirement donating his time and leadership to the Fargo Moorhead Camera Club. I was glad to have known him.
    Paul H.
President of the North Central Camera Club Council.

  12. Steve will be missed by so many people. He was one of the kindest, gentlest of men. I loved his quiet smile and sense of humor. I feel so fortunate to have had him as a part of my life. I am so sorry we lost him so quickly. Little did I know when we hugged Steve and Jeanine good-bye last September that it would be the last hug from him. My condolences to Jeanine, Zach, and Alex as well as their wives and the grandkids.

  13. Jeanine & family – I am so very sorry for your loss. Steve was an incredible person and his legacy will live on. Steve was my boss at Noridian in 2014 and we connected a few years later at the gym in north Fargo. It was an absolute honor to help you guys with the sale of your family home this year because I got to know you guys and see the love you shared. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

  14. It’s sad to say goodbye. I wish that I could have been there. So many of my childhood memories are from being in Crosby. Sometimes my older cousins would tolerate this little me who so looked up to them. Steve will be missed, but will always live in my heart. I love you.

  15. Thinking of you and hope your memories of special times bring you comfort. You had a beautiful service for Steve.
    Keeping you in my prayers.
    Mary Lee (Asleson) Rose
