Steve’s service will be livestreamed below 2:00 PM Thursday, June 27, 2024:
Steven passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at his home in Fargo, at the age of 63.
Steven Kenneth Kappes was born on July 9, 1960, the son of Kenneth and Shirley (Knutson) Kappes in Ada, MN. Steve grew up in Ada where he received his education, graduating from Ada High School in 1978. He moved to Moorhead, MN where he attended Moorhead Technical College. He began working at Kmart in Moorhead while attending college where he met his future wife, Dixie.
Steve was united in marriage to Dixie Haugen on September 21, 1991, in Fargo. Together they made their home in Fargo where they raised their son, Brock. Steve most recently worked for Pactiv in Moorhead for the past several years.
Throughout the years, Steve loved spending time playing softball and golf and following Minnesota teams, especially the Vikings. One of the proudest moments in his life was becoming a grandpa to Kenna – he loved her dearly and was the proudest grandpa ever.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Dixie of Fargo; his son, Brock (Hailey) Kappes of Moorhead, MN; and their daughter, Kenna. Also surviving are his siblings – Debra (William) Thompson of Grand Forks, ND; Jane Heimdahl of Des Moines, IA; John (Shelley) Kappes of Ada, MN; Susan (Kenny) Skalsky of Powell, WY; and Carol (Joel) Gwin of Ada, MN; several nieces and nephews; and his in-laws – Myron (Jeanette) Asleson of Devils Lake, ND; Tony Haugen of Devils Lake, ND; Kelli (Leo) Eback of Virginia, MN; and Penny (Bruce WalkingEagle) Haugen of Ft. Totten, ND; and Kenny’s second wife, Shirley Underdahl Kappes of Twin Valley, MN.

Dixie Brock Hailey and sweet baby Kenna: we are so sorry for your loss. Please know there is a village of love and support available whenever you need it. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
So many will miss you Steve, many softball and golf memories that will last forever. Only a few will remember how you obtained the nickname “Cement Face.”
Please save me a chair at the pinochle table, if Marv’s not there before me I’ll be honored to be your partner.
Brock and Dixie will be fine, you’ve left them with all they need.
I’ll see you down the highway in the sky.
Love you always,
Moose
Steve will be missed dearly. We have been friends for over 40 years. He was a wonderful person, a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. Rest in peace Steve.
