Steven M. Hoium

steven hoium

In memory of Steven Michael Hoium, 72, who passed away October 21st, 2023, at Bethany Homes on 30th in Fargo, ND. Surrounded by his family, comforted by the amazing hospice staff, and supported by Catholic Charities.

Steven “Steve” Hoium was born February 16th, 1952, in Fergus Falls, MN to Wallace ‘Wally” and Lorraine (Pladson) Hoium. The family lived in Fergus Falls for a short time and then moved to Moorhead, MN where Steve would graduate from Moorhead Senior High in 1970. In high school he was known for his abilities in football and track.

Steve graduated from the University of MN School of Dentistry in 1977. He then brought his love for dentistry to his community in Fargo/Moorhead, where he provided care for many years. He found joy in capturing moments through photography and cherished the company of animals.

Steve is survived by his four children Ryan (Shannon), Heidi (Chris), Beau (Kourtney), and Hannah (Andrew); and grandchildren Grace, Jackson, and Charlie; Shelly Hoium and his brother Bruce (Laurie) Hoium. He was preceded in death by his parents Wally and Lorraine Hoium.

The Family wishes to thank the staff at Bethany Homes at both locations for their compassionate care; and the kindness of those from Catholic Charities and Cass County Protective Services who cared and looked out for him.

His children have chosen to have a private gathering where they will spread Steven’s ashes.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities or Bethany Homes in memory of Steven Michael Hoium.

Guestbook

  1. I am very saddened to hear about this….hopefully the wonderful memories that have been made and the last moments you could share together, can help you and comfort you all during this difficult time.
Sending good thoughts and many prayers your way..thinking of you all during this time.

  2. Dr. Hoium was my dentist from 1981 to 2011. I was first referred to him by a friend who reported how gentile he was with her young son. His office was in Moorhead then. He was a pain free dentist, indeed. He and I were the same age. I still have all but one of my original teeth, with only a few cavities , including all four molars, thanks in part to Dr. Hoium.
We shared a great interest in fish and aquariums. Dr. Hoium had a wonderful aquarium in his Fargo professional building office. He always knew about the latest aquarium accessories and where to get them, usually at shops in Minneapolis. Dr. Hoium was not just a wonderful dentist but a fine friend.
My sympathies to all his family and other friends and associates.
