Funeral Mass:

Theresa “Terri” Ann Dahl, age 73, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 19, 2026, at Lilac Homes in Dilworth, Minnesota. She was under the compassionate care of HIA Hospice and Lilac Homes Staff. Terri faced her long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease with grace and resilience.

Born on August 22, 1952, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, Terri was the daughter of Leonard and Dorothy (Tobin) Deplazes. She was raised on a farm near York, North Dakota, with her three sisters and two brothers. Terri graduated from Wolford High School in 1970. She furthered her education by earning a pharmacy degree from North Dakota State University in 1974 and was awarded the Outstanding Senior Pharmacy Student.

Terri met her future husband, Bruce, at a pie eating contest at NDSU and they were married on June 30, 1973. Initially the couple lived in Hillsboro, ND so Terri could drive to pharmacy school at NDSU and Bruce could travel north to medical school at UND. After graduation, they moved to Fargo in 1976.

Terri was deeply committed to her faith, family, and friends. As an active member of Nativity Church, she attended daily Mass and was deeply involved with the Church community. She helped lead several TEC (To Encounter Christ) retreats in Fargo and Crookston and helped with CRHP (Christ Renews His Parish) retreats in Fargo and was on the team to bring CRHP retreats to St. Cloud, Grafton and Wahpeton. Terri was a founding member of the Women of the Word prayer group. She enjoyed helping with many activities at church including serving at funeral luncheons and also volunteered her time at the Hospice Heirlooms Store. The JPII school system was very important to her, and she could often be found after-hours helping with activities. She was honored with induction into the Shanley Athletic Club Hall of Fame in 2008.

Terri was a loving and devoted mom. She prioritized her children and family above herself. Although she was quiet and gentle, Terri had high expectations for her children and helped them all throughout their many years of school. She was a fun grandma who enjoyed reading stories and playing games with her grandchildren. Terri was a sports fan and rarely missed one of her children’s sporting events. She was our best statistician, advocate, and cheerleader.

Despite the trials she endured during her life, Terri’s strong faith and devotion to her husband and children was unwavering; a beautiful role model of a Christian wife and mother. She will be deeply missed but we are comforted by the promise of heaven and eternal life.

Terri is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Dahl of Fargo; their children, Melissa (Michael) Flaherty and grandchildren Joseph, Molly, Nicholas and Patrick; Benjamin (Lindsey) and grandchildren Caleb and Brielle; Daniel (Mariko) and grandchildren Vivian, Madeline, Elliana, and Genevieve; and Jonathan (Lou) and grandchildren Charles, Henry, Samuel, and Alfred. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: George and Joan Youngerman, Don and Linda Burgeson, Leonard and Shirley Deplazes, Kevin and Candice Benz and Anthony and Angie Deplazes, and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, father- and mother-in-law and infant granddaughter, Catherine Dahl Flaherty.

I was saddened to hear of Theresa’s passing. I was one grade ahead of Theresa at our Wolford School, did not talk with her very much growing up, but always had a very high regard for her as she excelled in everything, whether it was academics, school band, cheerleader, and she did all with grace and class, never promoted herself but with quiet dignity she was a wonderful example and a lovely woman. My sympathy to her husband, children, grandchildren, and all the Deplazes family and friends. God bless.
