Thomas W. Berge
May 1, 1944 ~ December 26, 2024
Thomas Wayne Berge, 80, of Fargo, ND, passed away suddenly on December 26th, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Valley City, ND, on May 1st, 1944, he was the son of Thomas Irving Berge and Eva (Petersen) Berge.
Thomas grew up working on his family farm in the state he loved and attended North Central High School, graduating in 1963. He served two years in active duty with the US Army, earning a Bronze Star and an Expert Rifle Medal. On July 20th, 1968, he married Linda Schneider.
Thomas pursued his education at NDSCS and NDSU, becoming a registered land surveyor. His career spanned over 40 years, during which he walked countless miles across North Dakota, Montana, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, offering great advice to his children, telling jokes, and visiting friends. Known for his warm hugs and non-judgmental nature, Thomas was an avid hunter and fisherman who appreciated beautiful sunrises and sunsets. In his later years, he perfected the art of making lefse and homemade bread, and his artistic talent was evident in the many objects he crafted and sold from his lathe.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; his children Heidi Berge, Robyn (Ryan) Lavelle, Trent (Katie) Berge, and McKenze Berge; his grandchildren Aiden McCleary, Lucian, Constant, and Emra Lavelle, Liam and Lydia Berge; and his sisters Betty (Curt) McCabe and Marilyn (David) Isaacson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Eva Berge; his parents-in-law, Frank and Mary Schneider; his sister, Agnes; and his grandchildren, Ella Berge and baby boy Lavelle.

Lynn was Tom’s roommate while in NDSSS and they became life long friends until health problems interfered with visits. Lynn had wonderful stories of the two of them traveling back from school to go roller-skating in Valley City. He shares these stores with a fondness that makes him smile today. Tom will hold a warm spot in our hearts forever. Our love and thoughts go out to you, his family. .
