Timothy "Tim" Bourdon
July 30, 1949 ~ December 31, 2024
Born in:
New Rockford, North Dakota
Resided in:
Fargo, North Dakota
Timothy Craig Bourdon, 75, was welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior on December 31, 2024, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born July 30, 1949, in New Rockford, North Dakota to Francis and Marjorie Bourdon, Tim was the oldest of three children. Raised in Fargo, Tim was drawn to athletics, particularly swimming, and he worked as a lifeguard at the Harry Howland Swimming Pool in his younger years.
Tim graduated from Fargo North High School and attended North Dakota State University where he was a member of the first NDSU men’s swim team and where he met the love of his life, Kathleen Callahan. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, Tim held several teaching and coaching positions, including serving as a teacher and swimming coach at Shanley High School and a swimming coach and Aquatic Director at Mandan High School (where he received the North Dakota High School Coach of the Year award for Boys’ Swimming & Diving – Class A). Tim eventually moved into Director-level positions and held many prominent positions in the Fargo-Moorhead area, including Executive Director of Team Makers, the national fundraising arm for NDSU athletics; Assistant Athletic Director for NDSU; and the Financial Development Director for the Fargo-Moorhead YMCA.
But among all his positions, Tim’s favorite roles were husband and father – he married Kathleen Callahan in 1971 and together they raised their three sons (Riley, Nick, and Louie) in Fargo where they were actively involved in the community through church and athletics. This joyful and busy chapter was marked with fond memories of the boys running around the old Bison Sports Arena before and after games, playing golf at the Oxbow Country Club and Fargo Country Club, and driving to Chicago for Cubs baseball games.
In addition, Tim was blessed with countless lifelong friends who were like family to him. After moving to “beautiful Lake Melissa” in Detroit Lakes, he loved meeting friends at the Hotel Shoreham, playing golf at the Detroit Country Club (and organizing Saturday morning tee times), and throwing his famous burger parties. He cherished his years living on Lake Melissa where a flank steak dinner followed by a pontoon ride at sunset was what he considered perfect.
Tim appreciated the simple things in life: family, friends, sports, storytelling. He had a great love for golf and football, especially the Bison. Tim was known for his confidence, his wry humor, and his ability to connect with people. As a beloved and well-recognized fixture of the Fargo community, Tim was a “stranger to none” – there wasn’t an establishment that he could walk into without knowing someone or being recognized. He had a knack for being able to connect with people from all walks of life through simple conversation.
Tim’s prize was his bride of 53 years, who he affectionately called “Kutzy;” his pride was his three sons, of whom he was equally proud of their unique talents and life paths; and his delight was his five “grandbabies.” Matthew 6:21 reads, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Tim’s treasure was in people and his relationships with them. Tim taught us all to love many and to love deeply. We know that Tim is now shaking hands and telling stories with a new and yet familiar crowd. Fairways and greens, my friend…until we meet again.
Tim is survived by his devoted wife Kathy; siblings Mark (Pam) Bourdon and Michelle (Hugh) McDonald; sons Riley Bourdon, Nick (Cassie) Bourdon, and Louie (Leslie) Bourdon; grandchildren Dominick, Davis, Marly, Lake, and Isaac; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Marjorie.

Deepest sympathies to the Bourdon family. Great memories working with Tim at NDSU. Beautiful caring wife and remember the boys running around the BSA. Celebrate a wonderful life Linda and I so appreciated the many wonderful memories we will carry with us. We will appreciate the good times we had together. Rest in Peace our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Tim was my cousin, but like a big brother to me. He sparked my love of golf when he asked me to be his caddy at the yearly All City Golf Tournament, taught me how to wave by simply holding your hand over your head, let me use his six-fingered baseball glove and took me for rides in his convertibles , a red Mustang and a Chevy Corvair. We ran out of gas on one golfing trip and laughed so hard as we pushed the Corvair across the railroad tracks to get to the gas station in Glyndon. I was so proud to look up to the wall in the North High Swimming pool and see his name as a record holder in the backstroke. My proudest moment was when Tim and Kathy asked me to be an usher in their wedding. Tim had many close friends, but they chose to ask Tim’s goofy little cousin to be in his wedding!! Tim taught me by words and his actions. To use a phrase I first heard from Tim at his father-in-law’s funeral, we lost one of the good guys.
Tim was a great guy. We lifeguarded and did ” clown diving” at the Island Park watershows together. His sister-in-law Mary Langseth ( Callahan) was a good friend on the YMCA and AAU swim team. REST IN PEACE, Tim.
So many fun memories working with Tim at the YMCA. He always had a smile and a story. He was the great connector and his positive impact on our Y and community were significant. Our sympathy to Kathy and family. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
May Tim share everlasting joy with our God and may the Lord comfort his wife,Kathy, children and family with peace in the promise of everlasting life. His legacy will live on in the hearts of many as he lived and loved life as a man of faith. Fr. Tim Bushy
Kathy and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Tim’s passing. He truly was a delight to be around and full of ways to make people laugh.
My thought and prayers are with you during this hard time.
My condolences on the passing of Tim. I heard much about Tim from his dear wife, Kathy, at Nativity. He was always in good spirits at staff functions and what a positive legacy to leave with us. His work for our state university, NDSU, will be in place forever! Senator Tim Mathern.
Godspeed
Got to know Tim when his sons went to South High, then later on when Tim worked at the Y as Director of Finace/Development. Tim always was upbeat and had a great sense of humor. I was fortunate to know him and work with him. He’ll be missed. May he rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers to Kathy and the family and, of course, for Tim.
Kathy and family,
We express our deepest condolences to you. Tim was a memorable character, his smile was contagious. We witnessed your strong family bond throughout the years. May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in the knowledge it was a life well lived.

You made a difference in my life yey I am one of thousands. Thank you and Rest In Peace my friend. Prayers sent for Peace and Strength in the day’s and months ahead for your Family. And my friend and classmate Michelle.McDonald.
It was such a fun time working with Tim or “Timber” as I called him and he called me “Ruthless” in those days at NDSU. He was a wonderful guy with such a great wit and friendly personality. He stayed true to himself and was the same Tim whether you saw him often or caught up a year or two down the road. It was always obvious how much he loved Kathy and his family.
Thought and prayers for Kathy and his family. RIP my friend. 🙏
To our dear friend of over 40 years.
Hard to say goodbye to a man that for us took friendship to a different level. One that made us laugh, smile, and near the end cry for him .Tim was wasn’t just a storyteller, he created the stories we all tell. From great golf memories, Bison events and trips, hockey puck barbecues, Lake Melissa cruises, or just plain hangin’ out. Tim created and organized many an events with the single goal of bringing people together..We will continue tell his stories and make people laugh and remember a person that will be in our hearts forever. Till later, my friend.
Tim was a great guy! He was such a funny guy! We did many things together over the years. I think the funniest story was one of our trips to Florence, Alabama for a Bison Championship, we flew to the trip, probably 100 miles from Frisco, about 7 of us to the car, Tim was driving, maybe a little fast, got pulled over by the Highway Patrol, the guy looked thru window, looked at Tim, then said “You all Bison Fans”, you never rebuild, you just reload. “Slow down a little, see you next year! I am pretty sure our attendance for Frisco this year, will be around around 35,000. 😁
Mark and Becky Lommen
So sorry to hear this. Tim was about as great of guy one could ever know! Tim was a great mentor to me in the front office of the Fargo Moorhead Fever. He held the public relations position. I fondly remember calling him “Mr Fargo” as he knew EVERYONE! He kind of took me under his wing and taught me so much about sales, marketing, snd how to engage people. He definitely knew how to light up a room when he walked into one. My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace. Although my time with him was brief, Tim made a lasting impression on me and taught me things I will never forget🙏
Thoughts and prayers are with Kathy and the family. Tim was such a wonderful person. We will all have photos and memories to share for years to come. God Bless.
Pat and Sandy are so thankful we visited niece Kathy and Tim at their lovely lake home! We had such a good visit! We are so sorry for the loss of your wonderful husband and Father! We read this obit and can tell that he was loved and honored by so many friends and community! God bless you all. We will be with you in spirit and prayer! Sending hugs to all the Callahan and Bourdons! Pat and Sandy Geraghty
Wow! Linda and I were not even aware Tim was ill. Terrible shock to open The Forum this morning and find his obit. When I first went to work at the Y and met Tim, he instantly made me feel like we had been friends for years. What a wonderful, warm, genuine human being. All our best to the family.
Kathy I am so sorry to read of Tim’s death. My heart goes out to you and your sons as you grieve this wonderful man. I remember the days when you two were dating and Rich and Marlys at first saying “No you are too young” but later coming around when they saw the love you and Tim shared…..and later the wonderful life you had! May he Rest in Peace!
I am so sorry I will be unable to attend the service but know you are in my prayers!!
Love, Kathy

Riley, We are so sorry for your loss. He raised a wonderful son. May our Lord hold you in his arms during this difficult time. Love you like a brother. Peace be with you. Know that I’m sending you “Peace like a river”
It surely was a sad day when I learned of Tim’s passing. Tim and I shared many great times together. We graduated from North High together and NDSU as well. We also worked at the YMCA during college. Throughout those years we shared many laughs and did some pretty stupid things but all in good fun. Although our life paths led us in different directions , I always considered those days as some of the best times of my life because of friends like Tim. I will never forget Tim and our lasting friendship. My heart goes out to Kathy and the Bourdon family. We surely lost a good one but are better people for having had Tim in our lives.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Callahan ( or as Rich taught us it’s C-A double L -A, HAN spells Callahan!) families. May Tim rest in peace.
I am so saddened to hear of Tim’s passing. I always enjoyed his company and good vibes. God’s peace and comfort to the families of Kathy, Mark, Mary, Michelle 🙏
Tim always had a story and a smile. During my time at First International Travel, I worked with Tim moving NDSU sports teams across the upper Midwest and around the country. Travel always means challenges…and with my partner Tim, we overcame them with positive options built together.
May God hold Tim close.
Kathy and Family, Our deepest sympathy for the loss of Tim.
Tim’s dry sense of humor and the joy he spread to friends is a gift to all.
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
Kathy and family, I was saddened to hear of Tim’s passing. I will keep you in my thoughts during this difficult time. With sympathy Ryan
Kathy and family…
My heartfelt condolences and prayers.
During the course of one’s life you rarely meet someone who is incredibly nice, others centered, constantly smiling and greets you with arms wide open.
I’m blessed that I had the opportunity to meet Tim… he was one of those very special people.

Kathy and family,
We were so sorry to read of Tim’s passing. What a loss.
It was truly my honor to work with Tim so early in my career at the NDSU Development Foundation. He was a great mentor ( and the first person to visit our first daughter in the hospital the morning she arrived!)
May you find peace and strength in the promise of our faith and the prayers of others.
Tim was a perfect compliment to the Callahan family, in their spirit of joie de vivre. Condolences to you Kathy and your beautiful family with love always
