Tyrell J. Fauske, age 40, former Fargo police sergeant, passed away on the evening of Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at HIA Heather’s House in Fargo, ND, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma. When first diagnosed in May of 2023 with stage IV brain cancer, he was given months, but he turned those months into years. He was a source of encouragement and had a way of lifting everyone up around him, even when he was facing his most challenging moments. He will be profoundly missed.

He was born on October 13, 1985, in Minot, ND to Russell and Glenda Fauske. He grew up on their Lazy RF Ranch in the Turtle Mountains next to the Canadian border northwest of Dunseith. He was baptized, confirmed, and attended Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau; graduated from Bottineau High School in 2004; and attended Dakota College at Bottineau for one year.

At the age of 14, he assisted concrete contractor Jerry Olson in Bottineau County for two summers, as well as helping his dad raise black angus cattle and small grains. After turning 16, he was employed at Lloyd’s/Dan’s SuperValu until he graduated from high school. He was a “cowboy” that loved music. He started violin lessons at Brandon University before he started kindergarten. From this humble beginning, he and his brother became part of an international performing group based out of Brandon (University), Manitoba, known as “The Fantasy Fiddlers.” They (and the Fauske Fiddlers-Ty and his brother) performed countless concerts across Manitoba, North Dakota, Alberta, Nebraska, Minnesota, Montana, and Saskatchewan from 1993 to 2005.

At school, he was active in FFA, choir (governor’s choir 3 years), on the newspaper staff, played basketball, helped teach down-hill skiing to fifth graders every year, and was a mentor for students needing additional assistance. He had many lifelong interests in reading, hunting, fishing, waterskiing, cross-country skiing, and swimming. He made a positive impact and many strong and lasting friendships along the way.

Tyrell went on to study criminal justice at North Dakota State University (NDSU), graduating in 2009. During that time, he worked as a student clerk for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota. He was a member of the NDSU Concert Choir (vice president for 3 years) and traveled across the country, as well as two tours in Europe, promoting University events.

Upon graduation, he worked at the West Central Regional Juvenile Center in Moorhead, MN, and for the North Dakota Grain Inspectors. He graduated from the Peace Officer Training Program at Lake Region State College in early 2013 and secured a position later that year with the Fargo Police Department.

Tyrell married Amanda Lyn (Bopp) in September of 2015, and they were blessed with two children – Corbin (10) and Connor (7). Amanda was a music teacher for several years and worked at the Trollwood Performing Arts School for several summers. They have started both of their boys on the violin. He was a devoted husband and father, who loved spending time with his family. They attended the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead.

As a police officer, he worked the evening shift. Throughout his career he was awarded three live-saving awards, was recognized by Luther Family Ford, was on the Face of Fargo, trained in Crime Scene Investigations, was on the Crisis Intervention Team, and became a training officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2022. Two benches were recently dedicated to him by the pond near his home that meant so much to him over the years, where he spent many days fishing, bird watching and reflecting on life. Going to the pond and back was a goal that helped him recover after his surgery – and he did it!

He believed in his profession. He believed in the people he served and served alongside, and he brought a positive attitude with him every day.

To many, Tyrell was a mentor. To others, a trusted friend and colleague. To the Fargo community, he was a positive example of what it means to serve as a police officer.

Tyrell leaves behind a tremendous legacy. He was a great leader and an even greater teacher. He shared his knowledge and experience freely and took the time to help those around him grow. But what many will remember most was his servant’s heart and the genuine care he had for others. But beyond the badge, Tyrell was a husband, father, son and a man whose faith was at the center of his life. His faith, strength and unwavering positivity inspire so many who had the privilege of knowing him.

Whether you knew him for years or had only just met him, Tyrell had a way of making you feel welcomed, valued and cared for. That was simply who he was.

The impact Tyrell made cannot be measured by the years he wore the badge or his years on this earth. His legacy will live on through the people he taught, the officers he mentored, the community he served and, most importantly, his family who he loved so deeply.

Tyrell is survived by his wife Amanda Fauske; sons Corbin and Connor; parents Russell and Glenda Fauske; brother Austin (Bailley) Fauske; and many other family members including aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded by his grandparents Elwood & Eleanore Fauske and Glen & Phyllis Holter; uncles Steven Fauske and Allen Holter; and aunt Carla Holter.
