Vi Gross, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife and above all else mother and grandmother was called home to her Lord and Savior on January 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Vi was delivered by her grandmother, Anna Brekhus, on December 9, 1937, on their family farm near Norman, ND.

Vi’s parents were Clarence and Bertha Morris.

As a young adult Vi returned home to play the role as caregiver for her younger siblings when her mother was away.

Vi unconditionally loved and cared for her family.

Vi met Edward Gross and they were married on October 27, 1961. They moved to Devils Lake, ND, then to Grafton, ND, shortly after that where they welcomed oldest son Chad, and then only daughter Sheri.

In 1971, Ed’s job with Nodak Mutual relocated the four of them to Fargo, ND, where their second son Joe was born, and then youngest son Travis was born.

Vi’s greatest blessings will always be her four children. Her unconditional love lives on like a legacy that will always be with Chad, Sheri, Joe, and Travis.

Losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can feel.

She is survived by her children, Chad (Kris) Gross Breckenridge, MN., Sheri Perala of Hawley, MN, Joe (Amy) Gross of Elko, MN and Travis (Katie) Gross of Maple Grove, MN. Her six grandchildren Josh and Spencer Gross, Mikenze and Zakary Perala, Kayla and Hailey Gross. Sisters Delores Tarbell of Lake Havasu, AZ and Lavonne (Roy) Black, of Fargo, ND. Brothers Jerome (Karen) Morris, of Bismarck, ND and Tim Morris of Fargo, ND, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edward, her parents Clarence and Bertha Morris, sister Betty Jane, son-in-law Rod Perala, along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be directed to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Vi was a special lady. We knew her being wife to John’s boss. In the days when their children and our son were young, we camped together a few times on lakes in Minnesota. When we moved from Fargo, we lost touch. She always had some kind of treat baked with coffee when stopping by for a short visit. We’re keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.

  2. Sorry for you loss I will share memories of two mothers talking at Holy Sprit or at hornbachers. Travis and I share some good memories together I think best is Hunter Safety Camp lol

  3. We extend our sympathy to your family. It was nice to get to know her for the short time we had with her. She was so friendly and caring. We will all miss her, especially at our dinner table.

  4. Our heartfelt regret that we aren’t able to attend the funeral, love to all the family. We loved Vi Dearly and will miss her.

  5. We are thinking of Vi’s friends and especially her family, during this time of grief and sorrow. Vi was a special, gentle and kind woman I was honored to know. We are holding you all in our hearts during this heavy time.

  6. Travis, Our heartfelt sympathy to you and the family. Your Mom’s caregiving heart is also your heart, as we so appreciate your caring enough to visit Cory just before he passed, when you in town during the holidays. Your visit meant a lot to us and you talked about your Mom. Wrap your heart around the memories your have and she will always be with you. Blessings to you and the family.

  7. Vi was a special friend. I first met Vi when her sonJoe married my daughter Amy. Vi came to Bellevue, WA and we shared in hosting a weekend wedding celebrating Amy and Joe on a beautiful August weekend. Due to distance we only were together a few times after that. After my husband passed away in 2009 I drove to Minnesota once and stopped in Fargo. Vi and I went out dinner. I was able to see her lovely home. I had never been to Fargo before. Another time Vi and I both stayed at Amy and Joe’s home and we spent Mother’s Day weekend together. She was a wonderful mother to Joe and his siblings and a kind mother in law to Amy and grandmother to Kayla and Hailey.
    May she rest in peace.

  8. Sheri & Family, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom! She was such a nice lady! Sending you thoughts & prayers to you and your Family.

  9. To Vi’s Family:
Our prayer, thought and sympathy are with you and your family. May God’s grace and love sustain you in these trying days and bless you with endearing memories that you will always treasure. May perpetual light shine upon Vi’s soul.

  10. Your mother was a very caring and loving person as evidenced by all the reflections during the service.
