Vonie L. Manthey
October 17, 1947 ~ August 6, 2024
Vonie Lee Manthey, loving sister, aunt, and friend, passed away August 6, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center, Hillsboro.
Vonie was born October 17, 1947 to Marlin and Evon (Jahn) Manthey in Hillsboro, ND. She attended grade school and graduated in Hillsboro before pursuing her degree in nursing from North Dakota State College in Wahpeton. After graduating, she lived in Colorado Springs, CO for a short time before moving to Grand Forks. She worked many years at the Grand Forks Clinic. Hillsboro was always home for Vonie and she made her way back, later working for hospice in Mayville before retiring.
Vonie was full of life. She loved to be social with everyone she met and rarely ever did she not have a smile on her face. Some of her favorite things included cooking (especially from her Norwegian heritage), Egyptology, crafting including rosemaling, knitting, crocheting, and traveling. Vonie had great memories traveling all over Europe with her family and friends. She was always taking care of loved ones and was the very example of treating people with respect and kindness. The love Vonie had for her family and her faith was never ending. Her shining brightness and smile will be missed by all that knew her.
Vonie is survived by her sisters, Tanya Nelson and niece, Briana (Austin), Rose Schlaht, Bonnie Oien; step siblings, Curtis Keeney, Lois Horsager; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
Vonie was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin and Evon; and her stepfather, Duane Nelson.

R.I.P. God received another angel
She once showed me a ring that was willed to her by a patient who felt Vonnie cared enough to give her the best care.

Our sympathy to Vonie’s family. She was such a nice person. She was so kind to my Norwegian Grandmother while working as a nurse at the Hillsboro Nursing Home. She would always remember my Grandmother. May God Bless you all. Don & Arleeta
Sending my sincere sympathy to Vonnie’s family. She was a very caring nurse.
Vonie and I worked together on a med-surg unit in the mid70s at St Michael’s Hospital, while it was becoming joined with Deaconess to become United Hospital. She was an empathetic, kind nurse who was fun to work with. Later, we worked briefly together at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, and it was fun to reconnect. I have lost touch with Vonie in the years since I left Mayville, and am sad to learn she has died. She was a gentle soul, to be sure! Rest in peace, old friend.
I worked with Vonnie at my 1st clinic job at Altru. Grand Forks Clinic back then . She was the sweetest , most compassionate person I know. Always kind & caring. Lovely in every aspect . Love & prayers
My sympathy to Vonnie’s family. Vonnie was a classmate and a friend. I was so happy to get to see and visit with Vonnie at our 50 year class reunion.
Have thought of Vonie as one of the nicest people I’ve known since we started Sunday School together. Have always enjoyed our visits. Her caring manner made many lives better throughout her nursing career. My sympathies to her family🙏
