Walter ? Wally? Ludwig Hillsboro, North Dakota The Funeral Service for Wally Ludwig will be held 10 AM Friday, February 21, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 - 8 PM at St. John Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7 PM in the church. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Friday. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro. Wally died on Tuesday, February 18, 2003, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital at the age of 88. Walter Peter Ludwig was born on March 24, 1914, the son of Vincent and Mary (Rust) Ludwig. Walter was baptized in the Lutheran faith on April 12, 1914 and confirmed on July 26, 1931. He grew up and attended school in Bohnsack Township, North Dakota. Walter was a member of the National Guard from 1941 until 1945 serving 3 years in the South Pacific during World War II. After his discharge from the service he worked for Ashland Implement in Hillsboro. Later he was hired by Morrison Knudson, working at the missile sites until the project was finished. He then worked for Traill County Highway Department until his retirement in 1983. Walter was united in marriage to Viola Zimmerman in Hillsboro on November 26, 1948, at St. John Lutheran Church. They lived in Hillsboro all their married life. Walter was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a charter member of the V.F.W. Post 4172 in Hillsboro. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Viola of Hillsboro; his daughter, Mary Ellen (Gary) Hawkins of Hillsboro; two granddaughters, Stacy (Chad) Marsalek of Fargo and Amy Hawkins of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; one great grandson, Blake Hawkins Storbakken of Eden Prairie; his two sisters, Clara Reyelts of Wahpeton, North Dakota; and Dorothy Harrison of Clinton, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Mary Ludwig; seven brothers, John, Albert, Harry, George, Art, Ernie and Willard Ludwig; and two sisters, Ella Hendricks and Della Ludwig.
