Wayne’s service will be livestreamed below at 10 AM Thursday, July 14th
Wayne Joseph Bahl was born February 20, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois to Ovila and Clara (Weltikol) Bahl. They moved to the Minot Air Force Base when Wayne was young. After his mother died, Wayne lived in several places around North Dakota. He settled with his children in Hatton, ND almost 40 years ago.
While Wayne didn’t have a conventional childhood, his experiences helped make him an amazing, family-oriented caretaker. He enlisted in the Army right out of high school and was very proud of his service in the Vietnam Conflict (1969-1970), Korea, and the Army Reserves. He told stories about his time with the 173rd Airborne Rangers’ “Sky Soldiers”. Wayne was proud of his service as a medic in the Army Reserves. He worked for 36 years at the Grand Forks Air Force Base as a mechanic.
Wayne enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, playing the slots, and telling stories to his family and friends. He had plenty of material since he was a paratrooper, did some acting, traveled, survived his cat Ching, and grew enormous cactus.
Wayne had two children from his marriage to Carole Lenoir Bahl, Uriah Bahl and Nicole Knott. They blessed him with is greatest joy, grandchildren. His “good girls” Morgan Johnson, Aura Heskin, Elaina Bahl, Olivia Bahl, Allegra Knott, Meleah Bahl, Evelyn Bahl will miss him greatly along with “Grandpa’s hockey boy” Avery Knott and his “little man” Azure Knott.
Wayne is survived by his brother Dennis (Linda) Bahl and their sons, Michael and Matthew and his sister Joann (Wayne Hanks) Bahl and their daughters, Stephanie and Ashley. He adopted another daughter, Kathy Lonski, later in life. He is also survived by numerous extended family members.
