Wesley D. Knain, age 69, of Fargo, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo of respiratory problems following surgery.
Wesley D. Knain was born in Northwood, ND, on August 11, 1939, the son of Allan and Amanda Knain. Wesley graduated from Northwood High School, and received a two-year standard degree from what was then Mayville State Teachers College. He was united in marriage to Connie Larson on June 10, 1961, in St. Thomas, ND. They taught in various elementary schools in North Dakota before taking positions in Brockton, MT, where they remained for two years. After returning to North Dakota to complete an elementary education degree, Wes became elementary principal and sixth grade instructor at Central Valley School of Buxton, Reynolds, and Cummings. He loved working with his students and throughout all his twenty-nine years at Central Valley, he continued teaching in addition to his principal duties. He retired in 1997 ending a 36 year career in education. Following his retirement, his time was spent with family and friends. He enjoyed activities that included his granddaughters, Paige, 13, Alyssa, 9, and Anna, 4. All three girls loved being with their grandfather, especially baking chocolate chip cookies to share with him. Trips to get blueberry muffins, ice cream, or to play miniature golf were some of their cherished events.
Wesley is survived by his wife, Connie, son, David (Gretchen) and his beloved granddaughters; sisters: Yvonne (Robert)Gilbertson of Grand Forks, ND, Frances (John) Wood of Las Vegas, NV, Leah (Troy) Erickson of Minot, ND; brothers: Terry (Barbara) Knain of Fargo, Wayne (Inez) Knain, Douglas (Carol) Knain and sister in law, Vidette Knain all of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eugene Knain and sisters: Gwendolyn Colbert and Mildred Hannem (Ronald).
VISITATION: 4-6 PM Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo ? and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Monday
PRAYER SERVICE: 6 PM Sunday in the funeral home
FUNERAL SERVICE: 1 PM Monday at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead (4000 28th Street South)
BURIAL: Riverside Cemetery in Fargo, ND
