St. Cloud, Minnesota
Resided in:
Fargo, North Dakota
Bill’s service will be livestreamed on this page on Saturday evening.
William ‘Bill’ Richard Wey, age 76, of Fargo, passed away on January 19, 2024, at Essentia Hospital in the company of his loving family.
Bill was born December 13, 1947, in St. Cloud, MN to parents Tony and Lorraine (Schwinden) Wey. He graduated from Central High School in 1965. Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1967-1971. He served during the Vietnam War providing essential supplies to our soldiers. Bill is survived by his loving wife Nancy Wey and two sons, Brian (Erin) Wey of Fargo and Dan (Kara) Wey of Bozeman, and dog Frisco.
Bill worked as a salesman at Fargo Glass & Paint and traveled much of North Dakota through his career leaving lasting impressions along the way. Bill retired in 2015. In retirement, he grew his passion for plants both indoor and out. Together with his wife Nancy, they traveled North Dakota, Minnesota, and Las Vegas to accumulate over 150 houseplants and put together show worthy outdoor flower displays every Spring. Bill’s love and overindulgence of plants was passed down to his sons.
Bill was heavily involved in slow pitch softball for over 40 years. He loved finding players that would play well and fit in with the rest of the team. Bill enjoyed organizing the team, playing the game and the comradery, the long-standing friendships, and memories the game brought.
Bill was a devout NDSU Bison football fan. He was rarely seen without Bison gear on and shared his passion for the team with his son, brother, and the tailgating crew. He made many road trips to Frisco, TX to cheer on his team.
Bill was a joyful, generous, and loving man who has left a lasting impression on those he came in contact with.
Bill was a charitable person who, along with his siblings Susan (Neal) Nordquist, Joanne (Jack) Selzler, Rick (Sharon) Wey, Patty (Tom Nettestad) Ludwig, and Dave (Jerine) Wey, all of Fargo, did not have much growing up. In adulthood, Bill gave back as much and as often as he could. To honor Bill, his family asks that you do the same and donate in Bill’s name and honor to the Great Plains Food Bank or any other charitable organization. https://www.greatplainsfoodbank.org/

We all lost a wonderful person RIP Bill
During our “softball days” I always enjoyed my time spent with Bill. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. He was a joyous person to associate with and always had a smile on his face. God Speed, my friend.
So sorry for your loss 🥲Nancy and family
I met Bill thru work @ Fargo Linoleum
It was always a joy seeing Bill weekly!
I loved chatting with Bill about flowers 🌸
Bill will be greatly missed 💗
I remembered him as a jolly person. We talked about his experiences when he went to the Philippines. We will miss him.
Nancy, Brian, Dan and family,
Mary and I have fond memories of our kids growing up especially those years at South High. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and for Bill. May he rest in peace.
Bill usually had a funny story to tell and he would sparkle and laugh during the tell. He will be sorely missed.
Sending love your way, Nancy, and family.
Gone from your sight (probably chasing a 🥎 or 🏈) but not from your hearts. Sympathy to Bill’s family.
Donna & Roger Hentges
Sad to hear the news of Bill’s passing. Find memories of softball days. Our thoughts and prayers to Nancy and family.
I went to school with Bill and our Navy times overlapped. What a surprise to see him in the barracks next to mine as we were temporarily assigned duty in the Philippines. I always enjoyed time spent with Bill. He introduced me to CCR when we were stationed together, and I always thought of him every time I would hear one of their songs. We would run into each other from time to time in Fargo after I retired and moved back to the area. It was always so much fun to catch up on what was going on with our lives. He was so proud of his family. Bill left me with great memories, and I will always appreciate that he was a part of my life. I know he will be missed by many.
My wife and I were very lucky to have had Bill in our lives.
We will miss him terribly but will cherish his memories forever. He was a great brother in law and our entire family loved him so much.
Todd and Kamin Benner
Our condolences to Nancy and family. I was one of many “recruits” to play slow pitch softball. He was a great coach and teammate. Donna and I enjoyed post game celebrations, win or lose, with he and Nancy. I wish I could have seen their bountiful gardens. He’ll be sorely missed. Steve and Donna Schneider
My condolences to the family!
May Bill rest in peace!!!
Nancy, Dan and Brian, I am so saddened to hear the loss of Bill. I have so many memories of the Wey family during my childhood just living down the block. I always remember Bill being so kind and welcoming any time I came over. I am so glad I was able to visit you all some years back. Take care of each other! Thinking of you all! ❤️
Nancy & family, Thoughts and prayers are with you.
To the Family of Bill Wey,
I was a designer in Fargo for many years and occasionally worked with Bill on projects. I had the highest regard for him; I trusted his knowledge of the products that he represented but more importantly, he was a gentleman.
I extend sincere condolences,
LuAnn Deibert

As next door neighbors for a short time, from way back, we have fond memories of Bill. Our condolences to Nancy and the boys.

Though we did not know Bill well, we know Nancy. Knowing her we knew she must have a wonderful partner in Bill. We want to express our sadness to you. Some people will ask you how you are doing. It feels like you have broken ribs inside and the pain gets unbearable, but to others it looks like you are doing fine. Seek out your good friends & family and let those true feelings out. We hope when that first flower blooms and the sun shines on it that it will bring a smile to your face. Bill will be with you always. He chose you to share his love and passions with in his journey of life.
Nancy and “The Boys”, I have always thought the world of Bill – and always will. So very hard to imagine him gone. I can only add to what everyone else is saying, that Bill will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
To Brian & Family,
We are deeply saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. He was always so pleasant and such a happy guy. Our sincere condolences to you, your mom, and everyone in your family. Rest in peace, Bill.
Nancy and family
So saddened and surprised to read about Bill’s passing. As proud members of the Fargo Central Class of ‘65, we shared lots of great memories. No more chance meetings at nurseries looking for flowers. He will be missed.

My heart goes out to all of you. I am so sorry for your loss.
