William Douglas “Doug” Camp passed away on January 24th at the age of 71, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He spent his last days surrounded by family and friends.

Doug was born on March 27, 1952 in Washington, DC to William “Bill” Camp and Shirly Ann Easton. As a small child they moved to Fargo, ND where Doug spent most of his life. He entered the Marines on October 20th, 1970 and was immensely proud of his service during the Vietnam War where he spent time in Okinawa, Japan.

Just before enlisting in the Marines, Doug married Bonnie Lynne Zastre and had his only son, Robert. On January 17, 1976 he married Kathy Forness and had three daughters, Anne Marie, Lisa, and Crystal. Kathy and Doug remained lifelong friends.

During his life, Doug held many jobs including truck driving, cabinetry, and construction. He loved using his talents to help those closest to him and was incredibly proud of the work he did building the deck at his favorite place on the lake. Many in the family have a dresser or some other cherished piece of woodworking he crafted.

Doug was a member of the Am Vets, where he enjoyed spending time with his closest friends. He enjoyed many summers on the golf courses in Fargo and loved weekends at the lake where he could sit and enjoy the sunsets and the eagles that flew by.

Doug is survived by his children- Rob (Mandy) Zastre of Harwood, Lisa Camp of Moorhead, and Crystal (Shawn) Barnett (Camp) of Fargo. His siblings – Deb (Brent) Hartz of Mapleton, Cheryl Olson of Duluth, MN, Barb Atkinson of Florence, AL, Laurie Hansen of Fargo, Patty (Rick) St. Germain of Fargo, Greg (Louise) Camp of Rio, WI, Karen Rebold of Moorhead, MN, Beth (Dean) Larson of Zimmerman, MN, Terry (Carol) Howell of Dayton, OH, David Howell of Cumberland, MD, Darren (Dawn) Howell of Frostburg, MD, Jim (Barbie) Condon of Frostburg, MD, and Mary Ann (Chris) Folnsbee of Bellefonte, PA. His grandchildren Kim Betrosian, Natasha (Will) Brawley, Baily Zastre, Ryenn Zastre, Cambria Barnett and Destiney Camp. His stepmother Ardis Stronstad of Fargo and many nieces and nephews.

    • The service, pictures and music were lovely. My tears were flowing seeing so many picture of Doug thru the years, I forgot what a handsome brother we had! I love you all, and wish I could have been there…Cheryl

    Love you Big Brother.

    • Rest in peace Doug. You’re pain free now. I remember my taught you to drive truck he told us along time ago. I also remember how my mom and dad came over to play cards with you and some other family members those where the good old days. Say HI to my Dad.

  2. To the family of Doug: My brothers, Dennis and Don Olson and I are so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. We all grew up close by on 10th Street South in the 1950s-1960, and those were special times. We have fond memories of Doug, such a fun-loving guy. Doug and I were born exactly 1 day apart in March of 1952 so we had that bond. He loved sports and had a gregarious way about him, getting along with everyone so well. My parents thought so much of Doug. My mom worked for Bertha Camp for many, many year in that huge house, and Doug was always so respectful to her, addressing her as “Mrs. Olson” and complimenting her on her cooking. It is not easy to be a Marine but Doug clearly was up to it and served his country well in that capacity. Doug was one of the good guys. Condolences to all of you in the Camp family.

    • Thank you Mrs Fredrickson. I remember your brothers and your mom and dad very well. I’m one of Doug’s sisters! I also remember Mrs Olsen’s fabulous cooking! I also remember years ago if you saw Doug you usually saw one or both don or Dennis! Doug really truly be missed!
