Jim passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his home in Moorhead, that he and his brothers built, surrounded by his family members, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. He grew up in Moorhead and received his education, later graduating from Moorhead High School. Jim was a lifelong resident of Moorhead – he lived in Moorhead, worked in Moorhead, and raised his family there. Earlier in life, he worked with his brothers at a construction company, prior to starting his own business – Van Raden Enterprises. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings –Roy Van Raden, Vernon Van Raden, and Joyce Fleischman. Jim had a “larger than life” presence and personality who lived an abundantly, adventurous full life his way. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. To Jim’s Family —- I have many memories of Jim with other people in construction and friends of Jim’s. He was a good guy; he had great stories about life on and off the job. Lots of laughs when the Van Raden boys were around. Thoughts and prayers for the family during this time of transition.

  2. I was so saddened to hear of Jim’s passing away. We were friends for over 50 years and had many business dealings during that time. He was certainly “one of a kind”, smart, talented and a hard worker. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all!

  3. Jim Van Raden Sr. was a true friend. I knew Jim for over 65 years, if you understood him he you couldn’t help but like him.
Rest in piece Jim, I’ll see you when I get up their.

  5. TO JIM’S FAMILY …… 40 YEARS OF MEMORIES…..TO A “FANTASTIC” MAN WITH A “BIG HEART”! JIM WAS ALWAYS THERE WHEN I NEEDED ADVICE…BUYING A CAR AND MAKING INVESTMENTS. JIM WAS VERY INTELLIGENT AND HAD A WEALTH OF GIVING, CARING AND HELPING THOSE LESS FORTUNATE..AND THERE WILL NEVER BE A REPLACEMENT FOR HIM. GOD BLESS YOU…JIM!!!!!!

  6. We remember Jim well, it was on one of the live aboard boat diving trips. I was videotaping Jim and Charlie underwater. Jim was having the time of his life scuba diving. Lots of good memories above water also. Jim will be missed.

  7. So sorry to hear about Jim passing. Our deepest condolences to the family. My mom and Earle (deceased) were friends of Jim’s for many years, he used to go to their home (which he helped build) in Windsor hunting, and we knew him through them.

  8. RIP Potty Mouth Jim, that’s why my daughter called him. I was one of the people you helped out so long ago. You were a blessing to me and my family. So sad I found this out almost three years after your death.
